I have a feeling I’ll be crying into my wine by quarter time as Buddy kicks his 17th goal.

This sounds like the first line of a country and western song.

Usually by the weekend im more optimistic, but this game is coming up so fast....

How do you test a broken jaw?

I can think of other years

when barracking for my team

was everything a younger fan could do

I could never see finals

for there were always better rivals

How can you mend a broken team

How can you stop the raining goals

How can what's begun stop declining

What makes this club go round ?

How can you mend, this broken team

How do these losers ever win

please help them mend this broken start

and let them play again

I can still taste the Bries

pass the mussels if you'd please

and a dusty Sangiovese while I cry

we will never watch'em in finals

been outplayed by better rivals

how can you mend a broken team

how do we stop them falling down

…....

I see nothing in Hore that screams he will make it. Poor decision if he is in the side.

a screaming Hore - well i never.

So who is the player from Friday not on the plane? Neal-Bullen?

Hore and Spargo should be nowhere near the AFL side. At least playing Preuss would give Sydney something different to think about.

Maybe he’s hiding behind Charlie.

Might be because it is not on the weekend.

They are taking a kid who had a broken jaw two weeks ago. This is way more serious than I thought.

Spargo is tough as guts but.

i'd prefer him out there compared to a lot of others.  even for a kid you generally know what you'll get

Yes I think he must’ve left him out in the first tweet.

I heard SEN mention all but Preuss as well though.

Not discussing how tough he is. Surely it takes longer than two weeks to heal a broken jaw. Has the smell of continuing to playing Smith with a injury in a practice match. Oh that's right we did not think it would get any worse. God deliver me.

Well combined with the issues around lack of fitness due to pre-season factors, it sounds like it would be a quite justifiable one.

Hopefully that is offset/mitigated by Sydney's 5 day break.

Yes I have done too much of that over the years.

Dark cloud over this team. Seem really bereft of confidence.

Goodys pressers make it seem he isnt quite sure how it all went wrong or how to fix it.

Would love if we turned it around, but history shows how poor we are against them... and up there its been how long since we won?

Spargo wont play unless Hunt or Lockhart are a late withdrawal.

Or if we want to try a three amigos small forward set up.

Or if he plays in the midfield (which by the way is his natural position).

He got dropped and then had his jaw broken in his VFL match. He got dropped for a reason and hasn’t had time to rectify the cause of his  dropping and build form to return to AFL level. If he plays, it’s poor decision making by the coaching staff.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
