Absolute twaddle, don't know which bit some on here don't get, we have a team of 22 that has put in two poor performances, one where the midfield failed and were duly criticised, ย the other where the midfield started to get it together but the team connection was horrible

We have players stuttering to find match day form, not from an injury point of view but pure and simple form

ย

Now that is absolute twaddle.

Beelzebub was right.ย ย  We are the walking wounded and our fitness staff are not up to the task and haven't been for years.

Yeah, the whole Jack Trengove debacle was great wasn't it?ย  As was the management of Jack Vineys foot issues.ย ย  Really enjoyed Joel Smith going back on the ground a few weeks ago with a stuffed groin.ย  Lets not forget Mitch Clarks lisfranc injury too that virtually ended his career.ย  T Mac training with his toe injury that flared up and caused him to miss the start of last season and must now be managed.ย  Why so many debilitating foot issues at the club?

Just three example of the incompetence.ย  All under Missons watch,ย  by the way.ย ย  But feel free to ignore all the evidence.

Which is that we were the fittest team in the AFL come finals last year

I don't know why I'm even bothering to enter this conversation since neither of us know the intimate details, but do you really think a shrewd operator like Peter Jackson would have kept Misson at the club if he wasn't happy with him?

Seriously, your constant rantings about Misson are the very definition of twaddle.

You have no idea, you're completely speculating and unless you've had any medical insight into even each of those cases, your comments are arrogant and pointless.

This constant 'I know better than professionals' or 'I know better than properly qualified people' is what's wrong with our society at the moment.ย You just sound like a dill.

Iย too am sick of all the talk.
Have been listening to the BS for decades.
Have to redeem ourselves every second week etc.

As for Goodys coaching.
We've butchered the ball going into the forward 50 with his famed "Chaos ball" since he's been in charge.
Lets just bang it in there and hope we can scrub enough through the goals seems to be the mantra.

Game plan is garbage.
Even worse now with the 666.
Coaches have been caught with their pants down.

Except I don't think the bomb it long to a contest every time is actually the game plan Goodwin and Co have been trying to get us to play all along.ย  Late last year the players started talking about lowering the eyes more headding inside 50, then started executing that well and that's when we played some of our best footy in the run home and the first few weeks of finals.

I actually think the bomb it long to a contest is an undesired interim state of our game plan when we are not executing right, rather than the desired intent of the game plan.

Good to see that the MFC is leading the AFL by getting a microphone among the journalists so we can hear the questions.

Agree 100%

Why it took so long astounds me.ย

It ain't rocket science is it.

Even in those 2 finals we won we butchered it going forward with little composure.
We had a good 1st and last qr against Geelong.
We made a mess of the 2nd and 3rd when we should have put them away.

Hawthorn game was similar and then West Coast putย our 1 dimensional game plan to the sword when they knew every ball was gonna go in high and long.

You have to question the logical powers of anyone suggesting judgement based on performance when we're rubbish. No ?

ย

Our preseason is now irrelevant! ย ย  Players have had 3-5 matches (practice/JLT/H&A) so should be match fit.ย

But what about overall fitness and endurance?

In mid-late 2017 Lewis (AFL 360) said something like 'some players weren't doing enough in match preparation/recovery especially when away from the club'.ย  Could some players have reverted to old (bad) habits?ย  Could some complacency have crept in over summer and players took their foot off the fitness pedal a tad?ย

We have tired late in quarters in the last two weeks.ย  Lack of fitness can cause tiredness and resultant skill errors, lack of form and lack of confidence but 3 weeks into the season, surgery and short preseason are no longer the reason for most of the team performing well below par.ย

Regardless of the score tonight, how we run out quarters will give an indication of how hard the players worked at and away from the club, over the summer and between games ie the teams overall fitness.ย

Edited by Lucifer's Hero

On a serious note. If all we do tonight is gang up on the ball and bomb...well. Season over.

It's touted this isn't our desired method. But I just don't see football as THATย  complicated that you CAN'T adapt to a situation by considering options. Surely these are part of the DNA of any decent player. Otherwise they're just robots...and an oval ball doesn't lend itself to predictable outcomes. You need a choice of tools in your kitbag... constantly.

If we aren't really playing our proper game....well doesn't say much for the coaching.

Yes Simon...no excuses ( never were at your level and remuneration surely )ย

Just fix it. If you can. If not.......

Negative question. Let me think.. Yes...arhh No...

Yes they are not the same, or No they are not the same

I hate negative questions, by the time I think I have worked out what the question means I've forgotten the answer.

Well, the result of either judgement certainly is - we stank up the first two rounds big time.

The implication of his (questionablyย worded point)ย being, ย that he is putting the onus on the players rather than the FD. Not sure it's that simple to be honest but it's hard to know from here.

Agree Tricky, the simple fact is it is only the players who can win the game in the end.

However the instructions / game plan sure helps.

At the nuts and bolts level, this is correct. Lewis' statement rings true - and age limitations are his own excuse - but factor well in his perception of the game and the readiness of the team to play. These are main reasons why I would like to see him in the FD, not as a player, but as a coach or as The Coach of the MFC. This will not gain much support from DL, I am sure, but his nous for footy is quite extensive and he is a very good communicator. He has also seen and competed with and against the best of football for many years.

I disagree. His comments resonate with me. I don't want to hear him come out and make excuses. He's saying there are none and that's what I want to hear from him. I'm sick of our mob from Gawn down, talking the talk in the media and then not backing it up.

Jeez, poor old Goody can't do much more. Damned if you do, damned if you don't stuff.

I think Goody's inviting scrutiny on the players individual games... instead of theย  'fugazi'ย  they been bombarded with over the past 10 months.

Fugazi splattered over the face and ears,ย  restricts players views and thinkings.

Critique keeps the players heads honest, and their feet planted.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
