Just give it away as a bad joke that's seen its time.

Given that the MFC added the Collingwood scratch match to the two JLT games I’m assuming most Clubs would see two warm up games as a minimum

I’m pretty sure I’ve read we try to get close to two games of match practice into our preferred 22 before running out Rnd 1. Then with trying other players (Sparrow, Keilty, Hore, Pruess etc) that brings you up to three games.

Without practice games to ease into the season who is to say injuries wouldn’t be worse in the first few rounds?

I've always liked the idea of AFL clubs being banned from playing against each other before Round 1 as I believe it would enhance the level of anticipation. Clubs would be free to have as many intra-clubs or practice matches against non-AFL teams.

I get the idea of cutting back on preseason games.

...but I hope they don't cut preseason itself back any further than the current 3 week Christmas break.

If they do then you can guarantee more off field problems.

Think NRL have trouble now, the AFL off-field indiscretions will sky rocket.

The AFL need to look at this as a whole and not just as injury prevention.

Players need structure, time at the club is important to this structure.

Young men, big money, big ego's and plenty of free time...I mean what could possibly go wrong?

The final preseason games should be on fox footy or ch7.

any previous games should be streamed or televised at a clubs discretion.

They need to stop filming this stuff and having everyone watch it.

Am happy to just have practice games.

Far better to control what you do or don't do in terms of publicising your development.

The Preseason isn't even a real comp anymore anyway.

Probably right.

Would also like to see the VFL season start bought into line with the AFL start.

The first VFL game for Casey is after the AFL team have played three rounds

They could make the JLT games 14 a side.

Less contact,  less tackling,  less congestion, less injuries (?)

The players still get to run around on an oval and game plans can still be enacted.

4-6-4 instead of 6-6-6

I'm happy to see no preseason games as long as they don't reduce the length of games.

Measures need to be taken to shorten the amount of time a match goes for without cutting down the 20 minutes per quarter of actual game time. 80 minutes of game time is perfect, allowing it to take 160+ minutes is not.

Cutting down the breaks between goals, the time it takes to ball it up/throw it in as well as encouraging less stoppages to begin with, the quarter time breaks, the number of times the clock stops for minor indiscretions and so on.

I think it’s just right this year.

Last year they played 3 games over the space of 4 weeks, with an extra week off at the end. That meant if the average player was rested for 1 game, he would have played only 2 games over a 5 week period leading into round 1, so it was way too spaced out.

Having thought about this a bit more, I'm quite keen on replacing JLT1 with the first bye round and JLT2 with the second bye round. And I'd be quite happy to keep JLT as the sponsor. So, you'd have the JLT Bye Round 1 and the JLT Bye Round 2.

Why ?

Because football was more enjoyable when the quarters went for 24 minutes than 30+. Everyone is busy, if the games go for closer to 2 hours than 3 it makes it easier to get to and from a game without taking the whole afternoon or evening. I like the anticipating moments before a bounce, as a player lines up for goal etc but they should be kept as pauses and not delays.

Couldn't disagree more.

I've been going to the footy for over 40 years and have never once thought the game went too long.  And I've never once had someone say it to me either.

Even watching other teams on tv it's never occured to me that I want shorter games.

Yes scrap the pre-season please, it's so boring.?

Maybe scrap the off season too? ?

34 rounds, no byes, three finals rounds = 37:  then “best of 15” Grand Finals would fill out the year.  Could be 5 day, 5 twilight, and 5 night GFs  ?

I think it would be far more exciting going into Round 1 not having played any rival club.

Keep Preseason in house. Tactics and opponents are ready to go Round 1

and the game is not too long, it is what it is

why is it that younger generations have an attention span of a Gold Fish these days

try being a teacher these days, a mate told me last week that it can be a nightmare in a lecture.

Just enjoy the 4 Quarter Battle

Season is too long as it is. Have the preseason, play 18 rounds and finals and that would be about right.

That system could be the savouir of the MFC.

At present the draw is so compromised in favour of the power clubs ... and we're not one of them

Interesting idea! ? Who would we play twice (before the Finals)? ?
