Only 1 or 2 smart posters on here, warned that the finals form of 2018 was more likely an event than a trend, in light of KPP development of guys like Hawkins, Boyd etc...

No one should be surprised that consistency for him is still 2-3 years away.  That said, I would have like his competitiveness with ground ball and tackling pressure to be better than it is.

Something tells me he will end up at Collingwood before his time is through...hence the ambit claim of 700+.

This is true but overlooked for the most part. A comparison to Hawkins is instructive. Hawkins, who came into AFL with a much more developed body, didn't become a dominant forward until his sixth season in the comp.

In his first five years the only times he really looked like a quality player was when he played on Nathan Carroll.

Not sure this is the right thread.

I'm a bit worried about Sam.  I can no longer find the tweet but a few days before last week's Casey game a footy scribe tweeted that Sam had closed his twitter and instagram accounts.

Anyone have any info on Sam's 'soreness' from that Casey game as he is not on the latest injury list?

Coincidence?

Hope Sam is ok.  He is young and all the noise and negative attention around his contract could be quite disheartening.   Hopefully, he is back playing soon and can get some confidence up.

And tells his manager to pipe down about the contract to media folk.  Change manager even!

Saw him yesterday at Windy Hill at the 3/4 time huddle. Walking well for what's that worth. Jetta on the other hand looked sore.

I was told by someone who had spoken to a member of Sams family today that Sam needs surgery on his hips.

Sorry a bit shy on info other than the club want to hold off on the surgery and see if the injury improves with rest but at some point he will need surgery. Given the way the year is going it will be soon and probably out for a long time.

The good news never ends

If he needs season ending surgery, do it now. Get him fresh for next year and get another spot for the mid season draft.

Oh boy... I am having flashbacks to the last high draft pick that just needed a bit of hip surgery.

Come on down ... Jimma T

Hard to see how this season could get worse

There is always a worse scenario DJ.

The upside might be we get them all over this year

Please don't tell us he has been playing injured this year and in doing so has aggravated the problem...not sure I can cope with yet another player being played while under a serious injury cloud.

On a different note, if he has played with hip injuries it is very commendable that he has played at all and helps explain why he hasn't played well.

A lot of players have a hereditary issue with the ball of the femur...  a sort of hook on the ball,  which bites its way into the cartilage,  causing damage.  I'm assuming this might be the cause.

They smooth it off,  and maybe the cartilage needs smoothing out as well.

don't think so hip impingement with labral tears due to femoral dysplasia is real and responds well to treatment, if indeed this is the problem.

He came into his draft year with hip issues didn't he?? Or am I remembering wrong, I know he didn't play a huge amount in his draft year due to injury, which we knew and were happy to give him a lot of time to get right.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
