Mods, how can this thread remain open?  There is no indication that this "whisper" is about Weideman, and is only going to cause unnecessary arguments what the player is worth.  It's also showed that people will take personal potshots at the kid.

This thread will get out of control even more than what it is presently.

I initially thought the same, so I thought I'd check the contract status of the Vic clubs.

Check the link below.  It can't be anyone else.

That said, it doesn't worry me.  There are often ambit claims in the beginning.

Straight swap: Weid for Moore

100 per cent agree. Do it now, please

The Hun are also saying that, due to good list management, we have enough salary cap space to chase another top line target this off season.

It also means we have the coin to sign Weideman to, what I would hope, is a reasonable deal.  They article mentions that May and Lever are both on around 600k or so, so if Weideman thinks he can get more than that at this stage, then he's dreaming.

But negotiations have to start somewhere.

If that spud ever pulls on the red and blue I'll spew.

Hey 'Chazz' if we really wanted to stop unnecessarily arguments we might as well close the site down.

Thanks for the link.  Only other name that would be considered a promising young key forward is McStay, but he's at Brisbane, not a Melbourne-Based club.

Like you, it doesn't worry me.  I can't see Weid going anywhere, and I can't see it costing us anywhere near that number to keep him.

So you don't watch footy then, 1 is a young key forward with potential , the other a key back with potential, only thing missing from both at the moment is consistency

that'd be a terrible deal if he was a manager; below the average wage

he's a key forward, which are pretty rare, and our whole structure is built around him and t mac

i'm very confident he'll sign up

what do you think he is worth over the next two years?

we can't have too many on big/biggish money.  if he wants to be part of premiership he can't be on 700K after 20 games

he should command at least $450k, and if his year is as good as we need it to be from him, he should be well within his rights to claim more than $600k

he's currently going at a goal a game, but we need to see him imposing himself on the contest etc.

fwiw, hogan was on around $900k this year if he's stayed with us, and charlie curnow signed a five year deal midway through last worth about $800k a year

so if weed really steps up and has geelong finals-like games on the regular in 2019, then $700k is well within the realms of possibilities

right now he has played 3 good games and a dozen anonymous games. if he has a consistent strong year then give him a bigger contract.  but right now he is no where near a 600K contract

I wasn't saying he didn't have potential, he is just one of those players with a head that annoys me. Like Sicily.

you don't pay for output tho, you pay for potential

tall forwards are vital commodities and commany big bikkies as a result

My guess is that if he kicks 50 plus goals this year he will be signed for around 600k. (2 year deal).

Hogan's departure freed up some money on the salary spreadsheet which took a hit last year at the extensions of Tom McDonald and Brayshaw both of which were almost certainly contracted at a higher figure than what we would have budgeted for a year before

If he kicks 50 we will finish in top 4. However I Struggle with him kicking 50.

Chazz If you just want puff pieces stay on the club website.

tend to agree but if he's going to replace Hogan and score around 2 goals a game fifty or thereabouts is his target.

If we don't get 40 plus out of him I cannot see where the goals are coming from to make the 8... Petracca, Garlett the Smiths ??

I'd happily pay Weid $700k pa.

But it would be $450k base with incentives up to $700k total

20 games ✔ 50 goal season ✔ AA top 40 ✔ and a few other kpi's and $700k is yours!

IMO untill he plays at least half dozen games where he kicks 2-3 goals I would not renew his contract. He had a good last four of the  five games at the end of 2018. That is currently the sum total of his good games. He has shown promise at the end of last year. It is put up time in 2019.

This thread is tailor made for old dee.  He'll be bashing Weideman from pillar to post in here.  He's like a kid at Christmas.

We will know in a few months time.  If he has a breakthrough season he will get a big payday.

If his manager is really asking for this, then close the door until the end of the year.

He is yet to establish himself as a best 22 player, I would hope the club holds off on negotiations until later in the season once he has some runs on the board and has played a full season of senior football.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
