Anyway we have Memberships and go when they play up here so we get to be frustrated live as well as when watching them on the idiot box. Such joy following successfull sports teams!!

Following the Tigers was not so hard DemonOX they had some very good teams and won a couple of championships. Sadly there is no way I could follow the SE Magic they were the deadly enemy in days past. My only chance is a new team with a new name etc. But even then they will not be the Tigers. I think I am lost to the game.

That team (albeit it too came from a merger) had an identity that was just irreplaceable. It was like the rep the Tigers had albeit they were our fierce rivals. The Titans were just soulless which is probably how you feel about United.

Soccer - 90 minutes of tedium broken by 30 seconds of blokes having a stacks-on at the corner post, and fight or flight in the stands. Television Morphine. With Horse racing, the most emotion sapping things ever presented on T.V

 

Not sure why anyone would be celebrating the death of Aussie cricket. And what exactly is this "bogan culture" people refer to? 

Soccer died with the Tigers for me.

American sports lose me with the skyscaper levels of arrogance and boastful behaviour of the players.

 

Summer sport sucks.

Careful Deemania the PC will fall upon you. I have watched games in both seasons so far usually a couple of quarters and then turn off. Poor skills and low scoring makes for boring TV IMO.

Bound to be controversial and offensive to some but I thought the question was being asked. It is, after all, only my opinion and perspective which does not account for much. I don't know any of my many friends, male or female, who like the sheilas' game, either - they say that they just '...do not bother...' ; '...no thanks, can't stand it ...', and these types of comments. Surprisingly, other than this impression, I have lived and worked for years in considerable support of women's rights and its progression in many forms of cultural enlightenment - I just don't feel that footy is one of these.

On ballance, it is definitely a pretty ordanary standard.  My recollection of the games last year is that there is probably half a dozen 'star' players in every side that can actually do all the things you'd expect a footballer to be able to do with any reasonable proficiency.  It's very frustrating to watch players have set shots from 15m out and completely shank every second shot.  Kate Hore, Daisy Pearce and a few others are the exception to that rule.  If Katie gets it with 30m, you can back her in as better than 50/50 to nail the shot.  All of this really pisses me off with respects to the moaning to pay all players fully professional wages.

That all said, I can still find it entertaining enough to watch (just like I can low grade footy) and I think it is getting slowly better year on year (expansion to more teams doesn't help that though).  I do think it's important to support the woman's game moving forward for a variety of reasons, probably one of the most important of which being the significant increase in participation at the grass roots level. I think this increased participation will actually improve the standard at the top level over the next 4 - 5 years.  When I played division 4 EDFL footy going back a number of years, we had a 'chicks team' and it considerably improved the social life and viability of the club overall.

I'm so desperate for Footy I'd watch AFLX all through summer.

From Gawn fest to yawn fest

My summer will mainly be EPL and NFL seasons with occasional A-League. Maybe some NBA in there, a mixture of stuff.

I don’t get crazy about Spring Racing, I’m not a V8 Supercar or big F1 guy and I’m not massive on Cricket but will take a passing interest and possibly go on Boxing Day for a few cheeky refreshments. The sting has been taken out of sport supporting for the year no doubt.

Sprintcar racing over summer for me. Season opener a couple of weeks ago at Avalon, Moama on Saturday (unfortunately cancelled cause rain), Warrnambool in a couple of weeks.

Biggest race in country (by car count biggest in world) is Grand Annual Sprintcar classic in Warrnambool, in second last weekend of January. 

Love this time of year!

I just hope Satyricon, DeeSpencer, 666 and all our other excellent track watchers and photographers take their annual leave now so they can be back and able to report training for us. Training reports (and the online banter which ensues) in late November and December are much more enjoyable than anything "real" sport can deliver over the same time period.
