What do 23 and 28 get us?

A further upgrade?

51?

Interesting, obviously have something in mind.

Makes our picks 23, 28, 54 and 62. Are the only 4 more spots to fill??

For mine we need another winger/outside runner, tall forward and small forward/lock-in player.

Moving up the list to hopefully get what the FD have targeted.

we will need to fill a couple of spots with free agents or something...

will be interested to see just how we fill our list up.

7 spots to fill as it stands. Sounds like one, two or three of Maynard, T Smith or Keilty will be upgraded.

That makes the most sense.  We may go for someone in the pre-season draft, sign a delisted free agent etc as well.

I like the deal, though - we now have two picks in the 20s, and trading up to 28 to go with 23 suggests that we have a few players in mind that we felt wouldn't make it through to our later picks.  Or, we are looking to trade further up the draft into the teens, although I don't see that as a highly likely outcome.

Disappointed we didn't get 27 but I heard it might have failed the medical.

Nah, I think it wanted to go home.

How long can a rookie remain on the rookie list before you have to make a call?

I think Maynard will be upgraded, but not the other two, provided they are ok to stay on the rookie list for another year.

Thought pick 23 could have been used on Billings before we traded with St Kilda for p28.

Does anyone think we’re going to do anything else this year?

Doesn't sound like it. Mahoney said we were looking to fill out three list needs and upgrade our draft hand. Think that's all she wrote

Surely, they wouldn't give up Billings for a pick 28.

And Gresham is the guy that I'd be targeting (even less likely, I know). He would compliment our forwardline perfectly. Alongside Petracca, Spargo, TMac, Weid and a resting ruck, that's a scary forwardline.

It'd be cheeky, but I wouldn't mind us offering up both picks in the twenties for Gresham.

Fills that small forward need and can also roll through the midfield, maybe on a wing.

Well, take 23 from 28, and get 5 !!!

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
