I also understand your point of view and I agree. But, to be able to pick up a ruckman as a rookie, such as Campbell would have been a worthwhile in my opinion. To have at least 7 small forwards on our list rather than 3 ruckman, is the factor I question.

Tom was interviewed by Essendon, Adelaide and North Melbourne and will join North this week whilst Melbourne showed no interest.I question this attitude. And the fact that Chris Connolly knew his family extemely well and somebody like Kelly O’Donnell played with him...a further factor I question why did he not even get interviewed .He passed a medical at 3 clubs that interviewed him. It is over now, but, we need to pick up someone in a year or two if Bratke does not seem to make it..hope he does .

Thanks for that perspective.

It is up to our list management as well as our recruitment arm to make sure Sh*t does NOT happen.

I am quite sure they are aware injuries or poor form could happen to the areas you mention, but it could also happen to the midfield, backline or small forwards or a combination off the lot. They have a very balanced list at the moment and like every other club will do,hope like hell injuries don't spoil the party.

Hi, I disagree totally, they were extremely lucky getting away with Maxie, not going down at all this year.If he had, we were stuffed.Did you see , what happened in the grand final at Casey, no ruckman, and unable to not get it out of the guts. This, in my opinion ,cost us the game.

if you decifer  the list, we have at least 12 midfielders, 9 small/ half forward flankers whilst we have 2 ruckman and 3 tall forwards, inclusive of T.Smith.

I say, this ,is NOT a balanced list at all.

This list requires at least another quality tall forward and a quality developmental ruckman.

That's okay, you just keep yourself in a flap about it until the list is to your liking, I have better things to do. As far as casey is concerned there is nothing stopping from recruiting a ruckman.

I will and hope Casey pick up a ruckman and a tall forward.

Ok, let me try and 2nd guess where the club are at with this.

With the development league now gone it's harder to have excess ruck stocks on the list. I believe with the extra spot we still have on the list to fill the club have planned to leave it open for a ruck if needed later.

WC are in a different position because the WAFL I'm pretty sure still has a reserves comp. They can afford to carry and develop more ruck stocks.

Bradtke is in development and this must be at Casey not in the minor leagues so with him and Pruess there wasn't a current spot available.

If anyone takes the time to remember back a few years, having the extra ruck hampered the development of Gawn. We had Jamar in the AFL team and they couldn't figure what to do with Max and big Spencer. In the end they stupidly tried to make Max a KPF/relief ruck at Casey.

It was obvious to me even back then that Gawn was the far better prospect and he should have been developed as such.

Given the restrictions of list size and the disappearing development league, I think our list is as well balanced as any team in the AFL currently.

I think you are jumping at shadows. Injuries do come and we will deal with them but no club can cover every eventuality.

Not jumping at shadows at all, rjay.Just looking at our list and draft picks and equating things like that .If Daisycutter is right and we still have a vacancy on the list as well as a further rookie pick,we, then, may be as smart as Richmond are doing re Stack training with them...we may pick up a player like McLean to develop and try out as a list member.

whilst I support you raise, I believe, we should pick up another tall at least on our list as we have only 3 tall forwards as such and 2 developed ruckman and Bratke.

We may even see Gawn play a pivotal role in the forward line and Pruess ruck..but I still feel we need more talls  now.

Refer to AFL.com.au for the announcement of Tom being recruited by North as I stated earlier.

we've still got 1 list spot and 1 rookie spot open......let's wait and see

we have 1 spot available, if you have 40 on your senior list, you can only have 4 rookies, looks like we will go with 39pl & 5rl

we can have 1 b-rookie plus 1 of either main-list or regular rookie (......i think)

at 204cm (6'8") i will presume bradtke is our third ruckman (although a novice) on the list

Just a little bit early to be considering Bradtke, I'd reckon. Certainly has the correct profile at this point, with some noticeable assets for the mid-term future and longer. Lots of hard work - both on and off the field aligned to some really close mentoring - and he will be a tremendous asset for the team as a whole, readying for a big call-up to take his place. Great potential.

Frigging tremendous team - now for the flag provided we get a little more 'mongrel' with all opponents.

Fair point....will be interesting to see how all play out.

He did rate Flip, but I watched all training all year, neither he nor King seemed to progress, already I can see Bradtke doing something, been working with his Dad,  who also worked with Max last year on agility in a crowd

Goodwin is a great believer in versatility, T Smith, Keilty, Weid, Frost, Tommy Mac can all relieve in the ruck should that be necessary

Tommy Mac actually enjoys the rucking coz he can lose his opposite number around the ground with his aerobic capacity

I am waiting for after Xmas with what we do with Keilty, he will have it in front of him trying to break into back 6, he is an accurate goalkicker and good mark, try him up forward?

Seems a waste of a rookie spot if he spends the year in a key defender post at Casey

Agree , Connolly was a very solid footballer for us, in a totally embarrassing period for the club.

Was one of my favs at the time. Of course being from the same town helped.

So you're a Ky boy? That means you've got no tonsils, appendix or anything else a certain physician could remove within an ever widening radius?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
