Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2018 Player Reviews: # 36 Jeff Garlett

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Played like a scared cat, skirted around packs with little intent of wanting the ball and didn’t bother to tackle.

If he corrects those things it’ll go a long way to him getting games.

Another preseason into Chuckie Spargo won’t help his cause.

Many of us have downgraded our expectations on both Hunt and Garlett for 2019.

If they make it that will be great.

Once again a pity that the Casey season will almost certainly start a few weeks after the AFL which makes it just that little bit harder for them to show their wares. Doubly so with JLT being practice level at best these days.

Jeff Garlett is many times the footballer Spargo will ever be. If he bounces back as I expect him to he will become a matchwinner.

Not bad, after one season you have summed up the rest of his career.

Well I will too. I believe after both of their careers are finished, the one you will remember as a good Demon player will be Spargo.

As for Jeffy, I believe he is burdened with off field issues and if he can't fix them he will struggle.

Would be like getting some bonus new recruits if we can get them back in form and would add some serious firepower to our team.

Don't understand what it would take to get Jeffy right, but whatever it is, we should do it.  Clearly he as the capability as he has previously kicked 40 goals in multiple seasons both for us and Carlscum.

If Hunt can get some form back, get back that confidence to take on the game and break lines again, the only thing left for him would be to learn to dispose of the ball more purposely and hit up targets rather than bomb away when he kicks it.  I think that's all very doable, when you look at some of the beautiful laces out passes which Frosty nailed into the forwardline at times late in season 2018.

Ok Spago is slow and cannot kick more than 40 m, Yes he tackles well and puts pressure, Yadda Yadda, but in Grand Final ..

I know I want the X Factor and that is Jeffy!

Most white urban folk will never fully understand or comprehend the connection that our first Australians have to the wider family or mob, that in many cases has multiple layers and complexities. They bring responsibilities and at times distractions to indigenous footballers and sportsmen. Just as the importance of connection to land is so important. Plying your trade in a city or urban environment away from your family and home town can be very difficult. Having indigenous mentors can help but it is often not the answer.

This may not be Jeff's problem but there has clearly been something missing that can't be explained by just loss of form or confidence.

Attitude and motivation is impacted and deeply rooted to a persons happiness, emotional psyche, and sense of place.

On reflection I've been " deeply rooted " all my life !

Simon Goodwin will never play a scared rabbit in a tough GF. He couldn't even get a kick in the VFL GF this year, when his career was on the line and he could have won it with a couple of good possessions.

As I said, if Jeff doesn't get his issues right he will never be the same.

It is very easy to under-estimate Charlie Spargo but if you go through the highlights of all our matches this season it is surprising how often he was involved in important goals. He is smart, recognizes his limitations and always chooses the right option - and he has just turned 19. I am an unabashed fan. Jeff at his best is great but i fear that he has got a lot to prove before he gets to play in the firsts again. His form for Casey was disgraceful.

Spot on chook.  Spargo for the most part exceeded my expectations of him as a 1st yr player.

I hope he continues to ramp up his AFL formline in 2019... and he was a distributor of the ball in our forward half, directing the flow of the ball most often.

I hope he can improve his composure further than he had,  and gets to finish his goals with more polish.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
