This is not so stupid, even though it could be completely wrong, at this stage.

First, GC could have raised it with us as a possible, if they can convince JH to come to them. We might have said we are happy to deal with them if they can convince JH.

As I said above, they have May and KK we are rumoured to be interested in and importantly picks 2 and 3, when the Lynch compo is awarded to them.

They have copped crap about losing players and if they were able to replace Lynch with JH, that would be huge for them.

They would get an ambassador payment allowance and possibly be able to offer him $1.5m  a year, over say 7 years, being $10.5 m. That would make JH a very rich boy and set him up for life.

GC are rumoured to be into Lukosius and Rozee for those picks, but they are young and will need time. We could afford to pick them or others and develop them. If we could convince say Tyson to go to GC and maybe with more picks and/or players swapped, we could be looking at 2 and 3 and May and KK. That would be a super trade and probably the biggest one ever done.

It would suit us and GC, as they would get a potential champion to replace a departing Captain or Captains, with other parts to the deal as well, probably including a couple of players who are ready to go for them.

Of course if JH only wants to go to Freo, well it was a nice thought anyway.

How would we end up with 3 and 5? gold coast will have pick 2 and 3 will they not?

Sorry I said 2 and 3 earlier in the post and then made a mistake saying 3 and 5 later in the post . I have changed it.

That's a really fair analysis @Redleg

AFL sanctioned of course...

The AFL would love this and would do what they could to help a love child who is being picked on.

The publicity alone of JH going to them would help get other players.

Yes it does sound funny, but a poster suggested it was the latest news and I looked at a possible deal if it was true, which it probably isn't.

I think Hogan to GC isnt out of the realms of possibility, they could make him the highest paid player in the AFL if they really wanted him.

But i cant see any situation were we end up with picks 2 and 3, and may and KK. We would maybe get pick 3, may and kolo for hogan, 2019 1st round plus other picks. I don't think we could convince any of our players to go to GC i.e. tyson

sadly a few years ago that was the case!

I heard we were going to throw in Ron Barassi and Mickey Mouse as steak knives...

The silence is deafening from all parties. It makes me think there really is a deal being negotiated. I hope we get a good deal, no a great deal.

Where is that coming from?

TBH I would accept it if we got good picks and players we want and they have both.

They could replace Lynch with a ready made potential champion and we could maybe persuade Tyson to go there as well to make the deal even more attractive for them. They will have picks 2 and 3. We are into May and KK.

If JH is happy to go to GC then we know something else is behind the move.

Also I think GC would get AFL help to get JH and he could get more money there than in Freo. He could become a very rich boy indeed and we could do a super trade.

I agree RL

There is a lot at play in this decision, for the Hogans...

He and his mother might want a fresh start, away from memories in the west?  Maybe, maybe not.

Also the AFL would be very happy for some players of Jesse's ilk to support the GCS's... and the GCSuns will have plenty of Cap $pace... and they'll be hunting high and low for experienced players who can hit the ground running, for next season.  no kids.

This will make Freo ante-up, as well.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
