I think Freo are playing  hard ball with Neale so that pick is not actually on the table fr us to try to grab. They will let that trade go to the last minute. Why not? Suits their purposes to go slow but we, on the other hand, will need to act early if we want May. Probably means we will argue fr pick 5 and their next years first rounder.

I recon that Freo want Hogan more than we want May, so if them trading Neale for unders gets them closer to a Hogan trade, then I think they would cave.

If Fremantle wait another year for Hogan they’ll possibly have WC to compete with as well.

It doesn't suit their purposes because they need to sell hope. Another year under the dour Ross Lyon and no sign of tangible improvement. They need Hogan and they'll desperately pay to get him.

Rosco is not easy to work with I believe, not sure if Hogan has ever been barrelled by Roos or Goodwin who appeared to tread lightly around him, bet they locked Ross away when Hoges toured the “facilities”.

Wowza. And Rosco's pregnant.

freo are stuck in that awkward position of beating the poor teams at home, the really poor away, and not being remotely close to those above them

i can completely understand why they're targeting hogan, but if they lose neale they're really robbing peter to pay paul

their home ground advantage finds them actually stuck btw a rock and a hard place

Also their horrifically outdated game plan and Ross consistently picking underperforming veterans and wondering why their younger players aren’t developing.

I don’t see them playing finals for minimum another 3 seasons even with hogan.

I will lose a lot of faith in what the MFC stand for

A 23 year old Key Forward should be a valued asset

Stephen May is an overweight defender, who has been Captain of a VFL Standard Club.

I don’t see them as equal tendor

In staying he might also end up part of a premiership side and confirm it’s a very nice place to be.

Mahoney stumped up two first rounders for Lever last year and has said he want the highest trade payment ever and closed his satchel.

So quite a bit to occupy the minds of the Freo recruiters I imagine.

Interesting trivia... he's never played a full season (all 22 games). Maximum 19 in 2014... most other years 17/18

Nightmare scenario. We hold all the cards, this would be akin to folding when you have a royal flush.

But as others have stated it is about ensuring the trade period is a positive gain overall. This will be a huge deal but with one eye on the end game this deal is not the be all and end all. It plays a large part in ensuring we get what we want to move on the players/picks we want coming in. No point delaying this deal to the end and achieving nothing

Couldn't agree more SWYL. All credibility that has been built up over the last few year will be lost.

We're not pushovers anymore.                   Are We?

We're the club that bends others over the barrel now.

I understand the message the club has been getting out over the last couple of years. They will have a strategic plan of possible scenarios that will play out.

Only one piece of their strategy but its the most important piece SD.

I cannot understand the desire for May. We have tallish defenders at Casey in Petty and Keilty who may be able to play a similar role as May. Also lever will be back which will make our defence much stronger. If we are to lose Hogan then picks 4 & 5 ( not 9 and 10 ) should go on the 2 best vic kids in the draft. Personally if we don't get 4 and 5 he plays another year with us.

I've been positive all the way through, but i can't help but think those shocker clowns delaying these negotiations big time.

Gonna be a long week coming up.

Everything hinges on this 1 trade.

Who knows, the Coach might consider playing Omac forward to see if he can do what his brother did. Playing forward, his Titanic turning circle won't be as much of an issue either. Might look something like May and Lever into the backline, Oscar forward.

We just dont know what their plans are, so getting all wound up without knowing why is a waste of time. (Not aimed at you)

There's a fair chance the Hogan trade, if it comes to fruition, won't happen until the very end.  This thread will hit 300 pages before it does.

That should be our attitude. Those first 2 Finals at the ‘G confirmed to me what this club should be.

A major part of the AFL, not a cellar dwelling nomad. But we must maximize every single opportunity

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
