He doesn’t want to be at the Dees mate.

Thats the only reason all this is happening

I know all that

but he is a contracted player, who can assist the Weid in becoming a better forward for a year.

I just get the feeling the Weid is still a touch green.

Just my feelings...

Michael Gleeson reports that the final and biggest piece of the interconnected mega trade is expected to be completed in the next hour.

The essence of the deal is:

  • Jesse Hogan and Melbourne's fourth round pick will move to Fremantle for picks six and 23.
  • Melbourne will trade pick six to the Suns for Steven May, Kade Kolodjashnij and a Suns fourth round pick.

WTF? why bother with a swap of future 4th round picks

Whether he goes or stays, I expect this will put a dampner on Vic clubs recruiting young blokes from WA.

Prefer we get a better deal than that

Weid is VERY green, WYL.

Very promising but only a 20 gamer still growing into his frame.

I think the real problem is paying too much and losing them for too little - that is the real question

I'd be staying away from any draftee from WA or Moggs creek

I don’t think so sue. Cripps is from WA and there’s never been any noise about a return there. Simon Black from WA had a long and fruitful career in Brisbane. The AFL is littered with interstate players who settle in. Furthermore I believe this has been as much driven by the MFC as it was Hogan driven.

Yes and Opposition Teams will target him hard now on the ground. A year of transition with Hogan would have been an interesting proposition

Dunno about paying too much, but I expect club's would always be losing them for too little.  Almost unavoidable.

I reckon this is one more pick perhaps 20 or a player away from being a good deal.

If this is it.. I won't be overly happy.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
