Farewell Jesse Hogan

That's still overs.

Could include their 2nd rounder back.  Who knows.

The point I was making was that I doubt it would be as straightforward as Pick 5 for May.  There would be more to the deal than that.  But, we shouldn't underestimate May either (not saying he's worth Pick 5, but he's a quality player).

I would imagine that pick 5 could include Kade Kardashian too.

ask yourself would you trade a seven pick upgrade or thereabouts for a player who has been deemed by the bottom club to be surplus to requirements.

You can't attribute full value to May anyway given he's available for free next year

i just want to get rid of Hogan. Grossly overrated and doing well without him has been no coincidence. Trade him for may and be done with it and win the flag next year.

Grossly overrated is a silly comment in my opinion!

We also did pretty well without Lever, should we trade him? We won plenty of games in the middle of the year without Viney, maybe get rid of him?

And before you or others say at least the Weed stood up in finals, he hasnt had the chance, and i have no doubt he would stand up. And those saying he hasnt scored goals against the good sides, he isnt there as only a goal kicker. He helps T Mac get a secondary defender, he pushes up the ground heaps as well. I cant be bothered going through the stats, but I am sure early on, when he was playing dominant footy, it was still against some good teams.

Personally, I want him to stay and for us to play all 3 talls.

I also would love to see us get May at the same time, just not sure how.

So we get 5 and something else for Hogan and waste pick 5 on May. I just don't get it. Make em pay 5 and 6 or next years 1st rounder instead of six. If not they can ge% ^%$#$%. Use 5 on best suited vic in draft not on May.

Picks 5+6 vs Picks 5 and 2019 first rounder... I find that interesting. Where do Freo finish next year? Bottom four again? Where do they finish with Hogan there and Neale gone?...

We could potentially end up with 5 and pick 1 next year. But is pick 1 next year better than pick 6 in a superdraft?

Let's just wait until a deal is made (if made), then we can analyse the deal.

In the meantime, see my post above about not looking at a possible Pick 5 for May in isolation.  There will be more to it than that.

Almost every team we played sent their best defender to T Mc from the week he came back. And often sent their 2nd best defender to Petracca or Melksham.

Maybe Hogan can adapt, maybe he was injured, but T Mc looked the better CHF of the 2 and Hogan became an incredible inefficient inside 50 target apart from against bad teams where he got repeated easy chances

one would need to be desperate to pay pick 5 for May... he comes free next year

Yeah we'll all be counting the great savings, after we finish runner up to WC with Kennedy kicking 4.

This ain't no super-draft.

Let's not get caught up in whether it is or isn't in an individual's opinion. There's good drafts, and really good drafts. It's a term thrown around a lot in regards to this one. Call it media nonsense if you want, but it's out there.

yes, but gcs can as they might expect a 2-5 band 1 compo pick

Is there any guarantees that May will net them a band 1 compo next year? Is this an argument we can bring to the table or it's guaranteed? They'll probably finish last so I can see why they are playing hard ball.

Can agree with maybe them going to Tmac more than Hogan, but not to Melksham or petracca when Jesse was there.

Either way, having more options makes it harder for them to plan and helps each other out.

Personally i just don't like saying that because he (or any forward for that matter) didnt kick goals that he didnt play well or have a positive impact.

I did give both of the choices for us to get used to. We either accept that Freo aren't going to sell the farm for Hogan or we keep Hogan and go through another year of speculation and then possibly lose him for less next year.

He is a gun forward who could kick 60-70 goals at 23. His value to us is high either way.

I am just amazed at the amount of people who are prepared to see him given away.

Fremantle need a forward. Let them pay a high price.. or walk away empty handed.

Overs is it?

So if May came and helped us win a flag over the next two or three years, would you still be whinging about giving up a pick 5?

A pick that is no guarantee to have the impact May would most certainly have given his body of work as a key defender to date?

Steven May we're talking about yeh? A captain of a club who was consistently rated amongst the top 5 key defenders in the league until this year?

Yeh cool. Yourself and others that hold that opinion are genuine nuff nuffs.

One thing that might become distressing is that Hogan only plays one more year with us and the dockers finish last on the ladder. That means he can walk into the draft and those shizenkopfs get him for zilch. That would be so annoying.

Yes, like with Frawley for us the AFL gave us overs instead of a priority pick.  The AFL need a competitive Gold Coast they will get overs.

Real tough one. Would go pick 6 in a superdraft but only just and only because you get it right now.

Well he doesn’t ruck, he doesn’t tackle, he doesn’t crash packs and bring the ball forward to crumbers and he doesn’t set goals up with inside 50 kicks. Not saying he’s goals or nothing but in the role he was playing he needed to crash packs or kick goals

He’ll be 28 and age is a huge factor. GC have just been given 3 priority picks with mature age players. I can see them getting a mid first round pick, but another pick 3 or 4 would be too much. They AFL would rather give them more mature age guys again, which this time the Suns probably trade and get some extra mid round picks.

If he’s restricted GC can match and force a trade especially if they’ve sorted out their salary cap. That might be more of a concern than the compo.

Bird in the hand. I'm with you...

When all's said and done, Taylor and every recruiter worth their salt know exactly what they want in each draft for years in advance. If we want more early picks in this draft over the next one, it's because we like these kids better. And vice versa. Still fun to watch unfold though.

We changed our game plan after the Sydney game - the last game Hogan played. We were much more patient, better at delivering the ball inside 50 and didn't defend so high. So it is not necessarily useful to speculate on Hogan's performance as he didn't play under those circumstances. When he played when were bombing the ball into our outnumbered fwd50 like nobody's business.

Hey cool down, we all can't be draft managers like some, a few characters are getting very touchy on here.

Like @The Chazz said, something would have to come back our way Gold Coast pick 24.

That would be a good outcome IMO.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
