It's self-serving nonsense to suggest Hogan can't perform against top 8 teams.

I don't know if it was self-serving, but if Demonland has any effect it was Freo-serving.  Fortunately Demonland has no effect except on the blood pressure of posters.

He’s a promising young key forward who has yet to hit his straps. The potential is there (see that word ‘potrntual’) but there are no guarantees in life. There are enough flaws to argue that it’s not a sure thing with Hogan. He is no Winx.

In my view his real value is around pick 5 and maybe an early second round sweetener. But because Freo are desperate we have a rare opportunity to drive a hard bargain. They need him more than we need to let him go.

Therefore, pick 5 and pick 10 or thereabouts seems about right.

Gee wiz, if I was an opposition list manager I sure as hell wouldn't give up 5 and 10 in a draft blessed with top end talent for a player who, to quote you:

" ...did not finish top ten in his own club B&F.

Hogan played poorly in virtually every big game he took the field in in 2018. 9 goals in 8 games against the top 10 clubs.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda ... didn’t."

Hogan is either a star worthy of one of the best trades ever (5+10), or he's an over rated down hill skier who hasnt lived up to expectations.

Can't have it both ways.

5 years and 70 games under his belt. List managers know his value and they will trade for what he is worth now.

You give me the tip, I’ll give you the facts.

- Hogan did not finish top ten in his own club B&F.

- Hogan played poorly in virtually every big game he took the field in in 2018. 9 goals in 8 games against the top 10 clubs.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda ... didn’t.

-Hogans points average on games played were top 5 in the B&F this year. He missed the top 10 due to missing games

-Rd1 3 goals and 16 disposals rd 1 vs Geelong, Rd4 24 disposals and 1 goal vs Hawthorn, Rd5 22 disposals and 1 goal vs Richmond. Are they bad games as a CHF? You tell me. Personally I think they are decent games in a losing side.

-Hogan averaged the highest amount of Goals and Marks for any player under 25 in the AFL this year. He is the highest ranked CHF in his age bracket in the Comp.

- MFC traded 3 & 13 in exchange for Hogan, pick 20 and Dom Barry when Hogan was first drafted. The deal you are proposing is less than what we paid for him after Hogan has improved his value since he was drafted and the MFC has put significant development into him. It does not make sense that his value has diminished, but that is what you are saying.

- If you believe the rumours the offer being put to Hogan by Freo would make him one of the highest earners in the Comp at $1.1-1.2m p/a. You can't expect to make a Godfather offer to a player to bring him across to another club and then expect to pay chump change as compensation to the club you are trading with.

Well balanced view. I agree 100%

Not that has been reported.

No, and Jesse and his management have said they’re not interested in discussing one at this stage.

Gaf is staying at WC to hopefully be part of another flag... If other than purely to support his family , why would he want to go to Freo???

Ok. Ok.  My bad.  I phrased it badly and made it worse when trying to clarify.  Was just trying to say he may not be rated as highly by Freo relative to Neale for a variety of reasons.  I botched it.  By no means was any offence intended.  Apologies.

These are dangerous times. One slip-up could kill this deal. We must all be on our guard and choose our words carefully.

Any chance that Andrew Bradshaw going to Melbourne the could be part of a deal involving Hogan?

Yet despite that stellar portrait you paint of him here we are none-so-gently nudging him out the door, or at least not discouraging him from ‘pursuing options’.

I wonder why ...

He’s not willing to commit long-term and Mahoney spoke during the week of wanting a stable list.

Don't know about Bradshaw, but Andrew Brayshaw would be a chance to be in the Hogan deal.

I would. Especially if I was Ross Lyon and staring down another season with Taberner, McCarthy and whichever other no-name hack he’s been running with in that forward line the past few seasons. They are under serious threat of a bottom four finish Freo, which would likely cost the coach his job. They are DESPERATE.

Nowhere have I ever stated that Hogan is no good. He’s a talented young key forward with potential, however he does have his flaws. People on here talk like he’s guaranteed to be a multiple All-Australian , multiple Coleman Medal winning champion of the sport in years to come. He is being talked about like he’s the next Buddy Franklin. It’s bulltish. Living in Dee-nial land.

At 23yo Buddy was winning a flag, kicking a ton and routinely wheeling away from 60m out and thumping sausage rolls through at post height.

Jesse Hogan has achieved nothing in footy yet except winning a Rising Star award and showing plenty of promise, as well as exhibited some worrying defects. A clear eyed view show  that’s all he’s done.

Freo will pay up the extra top tenner for him  because they have no bloody choice.

Surely we've gone too far down the track for this not to happen now.

I dont know a lot about either except that they are highly rated... but who'd we rather.. Cerra or Brayshaw?

Bradshaw was also handy in his day.

Cerra is probably the better player ATM, but he will be no chance of being traded, whereas Brayshaw might be a chance if Dockers want to keep a high pick.

What would you rather? I’d rather a pick but I don’t really know how good Brayshaw is

Of course that’s the public line.

To be honest, I haven't seen enough of Andrew playing to know. He was pick 2 last year and if you said to me you could have Lukosius or Rankine, I would take one of them from the little I have seen on the highlights packages.

Then again, I don't expect either of those boys to be there at the picks we are probably talking about anyway.

I will trust in JT to make the right choice.

Simple, sign now with the MFC or look elsewhere.

So if Hogan had a medical then one would presume he is going but then again maybe mrs fremantle might be unhappy with mr hogans foot.

Completely forgot he was pick 2, I’m rather excited for this trade period. With or without Hogan we’re looking pretty moist

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
