Farewell Jesse Hogan

Thanks. The only talk over here is picks 4 and 5 to Melbourne for Hogan.

Considering their lack of low picks (although they’ll also receive 22 for Neale), it makes sense given their position Fremantle May conduct the above trade with Port.

Yeah, it means they keep an early first rounder, 9 or 10 depending on what they trade to us. I would love 4 and 5 but wouldn't be surprised if we got 5 and 10 or even 9 and 10.

I’m sad to see him go because I love him as a player, but if he was always going home at some stage, he’s doing us a massive favour by doing it now as the club is strong enough now to not fall apart from this and he’s at peak value. We could potentially end up with 3 new best 22 players out of this.

Or none!

We need top players now, not in 4 years time when draft picks might or might not have come good.

Neither club nor the player has said a thing but the media frenzy has you saying we are past the point of no return? Errr OK...

Don't see any point for us in draft picks unless we trade them for someone who can aid the team in the next 4 years.

As I posted elsewhere, assuming Sam Weed will develop into a star based on one good outing in a final is 'courageous'.

What part are you having trouble with? I couldn’t care less what has been said in the media.

Consider it my educated opinion then.

I think I'm in the minority. Assuming we solve a need through May and KK with a late 1st round draft pick, I'm not against picking up a kid early within the first round.

This draft is supposedly significantly stronger than that of 2017. Rayner, Brayshaw, Paddy Dow, Adam Cerra, Jaidyn Stephenson (Rising Star) and Davies - Uniake were the first six of this year.

Talk of Freo trading 4 or 5 to port for 9 and 10. Then ontrading the 10 to us with the remaining low pick for Jesse.

Why wouldn't we do that deal with Port ourselves?  I'd be disappointed if the club wasn't on top of this and demanding that it's Freo's and Brisbane's first picks or no deal until 2019; unless they want to trade us pick 5 and Cerra.

Freo can't have their cake and eat it too, 4 and 5 is closer to Hogan's worth than say 5 and 10 (Port will probably only do that deal if it can be Pick 4 to get one of the SA lads).  That deal sounds more like a fan trade than a realistic club option.

Hogan is gone. You are spot on. No chance he plays at Melbourne next year. He is headed back to Perth. Be interested to see if he gives a farewell speech at the BnF tomorrow. Last year at the BNf he could barely string a sentence together.

Yeah probably JR. Think this may actually be it though. Unless it's the year after.

We might, if we get 4 and 5. But this way, Freo keep a top 10 pick, and still have 2 to trade for Hogan. Makes sense for them, but means we get less

Presumably he would give a speech only if he featured in the awards.  A very very outside chance of 5th in the Bluey so unlikely to hear from him.

I can't believe people are still against the idea of drafting a top 10 pick this year. The Rising Star was in a GF yesterday. Age means nothing, Talent is everything. We might not have a player out there that's better than what we got, so why not use it in the draft.

Also i'm fine with May coming in but i am concerned with his attitude and i think he see's the Suns salary cap issue as weapon to get out and get a big pay day in Victoria. 650k max, he shouldn't be on what Hogan and Lever are currently on otherwise guys like Oliver, Brayshaw, Gawn, Viney and Trac will all start wondering why Lewis is telling them to take unders when the club bring in talent and pays them overs at their expense.

Still i'm on board with anything that helps us land J.Kelly and i'd think the rest of squad would see him as someone worth a million.

It is a super draft if you draft very well.

Every draft's a superdraft with Taylor. That's the one silver lining in this. We might get a few juicy picks as extras... so many players leaving. That's one thing I'm excited about. I felt like our depth and overall list the last few years was outstanding, but after looking at the Pies this year, I feel like we do actually have some pretty average dead wood lying around the place. 6 fresh new names, regardless of where he picks them, would be just the thing to cheer us up.

After the first couple of interactions I didn’t bother to read too much of the content but generally I do read most posters contributions on here.

Gut feel says Freo are going to try and throw 9 & 10 at us for Hogan while keeping pick 5 for themselves at the pointy end of this draft.

Our position should be “nah sorry we will be having picks 5 & 9 if you want your gun key forward. Take it or leave it. Happy to keep him for another year and then deal with West Coast at the end of 2018 for Jesse’s services.”

It may only be a five pick difference we’ll hold out for, but in this draft that could well be the difference between adding a good player and a genuine star to our list.

Picks 5 & 9.

You initiated this Freo.

You have close to the worst forward line in the league and a coach and board under pressure.

You want Hogan that desperately there’s a price to pay. Or no dice!

Interesting. I've got a half a dozen posters I stick with. And obviously come here for first news and rumours... but leave it at that.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
