    yes we are in a premiership window but i'd still like to have draft picks as I dont want to be cr@p again for another 12 years. So i'd take any early picks and use them

    we were crap for a decade, doctor, because we bet the house on the draft and got rid of a core group that held the team together for a decade. we picked up Fritsch and Spargo deep in the draft last year, and both are starting 22 in arguably the best team the club has fielded in over 5 decades. Throw in VB and Hannan as well as smart "mature" aged picks and there is clear proof that high drafts are not the be all and end all.

    The logic behind trading a key position player in his early 20s and yet to hit his prime just to improve our draft position is utter lunacy. It's on par with the idiocy I see on some of the Facebook supporter groups of people screaming for Petracca and ANB to be dropped (and posted DURING the game mind you). I apologise if that seems like a direct attack on you and others here but it's genuinely how I feel at the moment. Midway through the season I probably thought differently but now that we have turned the corner, we should keep our hand close to our chest rather than throwing it all away in the hope we get a better hand at the draft.

    Hogan has had his Clive Waterhouse-esque moments this year, but he's a smart player with a huge tank that can find the ball. He would have gone top 3 in any of the past 10 drafts, including this year. That's not an argument to trade him. It's an argument to keep him. 

    Unless a Hogan trade immediately improves us, it's a firm "Yeah nah" from me. And by "improve us immediately" I mean a young, proven winner. A like for like swap is the only possible fair trade, and that's never going to happen.

    If Hogan goes we will get decent draft picks 2019 which is not bad. Feezing up our salary cap could allow us to get Gaff or possibly Sheilds. Lynch may be possible. Tyson,Kent,JKH,Dion and Garlett could be put on the trade table.

    Give it a rest, we already have salary cap room, in case you didn't hear Lynch has already nominated as the club he is going to.

    I hear what you're saying but unfortunately until Petracca performs consistently then it his him and his supporters like you that need to show something. His performance against geelong was pathetic. As for Hogan, we've hit better form without him and this happened last season too when Hogan missed. It's definitely not coincidence. Yes, he is a talented player but his defensive pressure is non-existent and his attitude is culture-sucking. So don't just tell me how many goals he has kicked because that only tells half the picture with Hogan. And I called it as soon as it happened that the loss of Hogan would not affect us in the slightest. I was right.

    I think the reason we are better when Jesse is not there because the team tend to focus on him when kicking into the forward line and the opponents tend to double team him.

    Until Jesse says he wants to leave this whole theme is moot since I believe if we play Jesse further afield he will not become a forward line focus and a better player.

    Let me guess, you were a jack watts fan too? lol. lets not embarrass those that supported him for all those years. If he was pick 50, he would've been delisted 5 years earlier. Same goes for Hogan and Petracca. Call it as we see it.

    Think he's gone boys. I really like Jesse and think he's a very talented player, but if its fait accompli that he will return to Perth at some point, it makes sense for him to be moved on when we can maximize value. Heard from a couple of sources (that could be complete [censored]) but thought I would pass them on. One was from a guy who was accomplices with a board member who said that he will be sent to Freo in a package involving Andrew Brayshaw. 

    The one I heard today at work was from a colleague who is good friends with one of the MFC players who said Hogan is involved in a 3 way trade with Freo and Brisbane with Neale included, unsure of what was coming to us however.

    This is becoming very interesting.  Despite what Goody said a few weeks ago, the talk isn't going away.  There's obviously going to be some very disappointed supporters if he isn't on out list next year.

    As talented as he obviously is, I can't ignore our results when he isn't in the team.  Maybe an absolute coincidence, but it definitely doesn't make me fear a future without him.

    Keep in mind any 'talk' for public consumption will invariably always push the status quo. Coaches are always backed...players always needed. No one EVER goes anywhere ... officially...til they do .

    It's the company line.

    You wouldn't really expect the MFC to say anything different...3 weeks from grabbing our next flag !!

    Interesting the talk of Jesse going 'home'. Where exactly is that?

    He's lived in Melb for last 6 years.

    His mother lives in Melb

    Much of his family live in SA

    His closest bunch of mates are at MFC

    I'm not sure supporting Freo as a kid counts as a lure anymore.

    I don’t want to trade Hogan but a scenario like this has to at very least make you stop and think.

    During a discussion ON THE COUCH this evening,  it was interesting to hear Roos proffer and then promote the idea of playing Jesse at CHB. I got the feeling that this is what he'd try if he were still coaching.

    Garry brought up Jesse's lack of forward half pressure and how the forward set up had improved since Jesse's injury. This is undeniable IMO. But the others interjected and rightly said our Jesse-less forwardline also coincided with us playing 6-6-6, so it wasn't as simple as Garry suggested.

    However, I'd say at least playing Jesse at CHB would ensure more combativeness from him and the need for a pressure game.  His lack of tackling is really an issue for us IMO. And after playing a few games down back, he could then take this back to the forwardline with him.

    Although, I'm still not convinced you can take a 40+ gun forward out of your forwardline...

      The Sir Doug Nicholls Round kicks off in Darwin with a Top 4 clash between the Suns and the Hawks. On Friday night the Swans will be seeking to rebound from a challenging start to the season, while the Blues have the Top 8 in their sights after their sluggish start. Saturdays matches kick off with a blockbuster between the Collingwood and Kuwarna with the Magpies looking to maintain their strong form and the Crows aiming to make a statement on the road. The Power face a difficult task to revive their season against a resilient Cats side looking to make amends for their narrow loss last week. The Giants aim to reinforce their top-eight status, while the Dockers will be looking to break the travel hoodoo. The sole Saturday game is a critical matchup for both teams, as the Bulldogs strive to cemet their spot in the top six and the Bombers desperately want break into the 8. Sundays start with a bottom 3 clash between the Tigers and Kangaroos with both teams wanting to avoid the being in wooden spoon contention. The Round concludes with the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season, while the Saints look to keep their finals hopes alive with a crucial away victory.       And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.
