Once Hawks played two key forwards we were bereft of intercept and completely went to pieces in terms of ball movement

It was an ugly game to watch with an uglier result

That last quarter was awful

I thought Box Hill had by far the  better run from the umpires, who exuded inconsistency and diffidence.

Could someone please explain to me that last free they got dead in front after we marked it.Was it no 15, play on, then Petty was deemed to throw  it? ( I think he thought the ump was going to say no 15, but he didn’t, so he pulled his handball, expecting to be paid the mark)

Some fairly irrational responses here. I get you’re hurting but seriously. Hunt was good early, tried to take the game on and was under pressure every time he went near it. A good preseason and regaining some confidence will do a lot for him. Keilty and Petty were solid, including a huge impact early. JKH was excellent early but faded. Garlett poor. McKenna unsighted. Bernie tried but has called it at the right time. Pedo was Pedo. JWagner quiet. Tim Smith contributed. Bugg fought all game but struggled to have a big impact. Fritsch showed his talent and one of the few to continue to take the game on (though can’t understand why they think he’s a defender).

Keilty and Petty huge in the first half .

Dont know why the hatred for Hunt here. He broke lines, he put his head over the ball and created contests. He also hit tagets which has been one of his big problems.

No he didn’t. Which game were you watching? He was terrible.

Sorry all

harsh on Hunt but I saw him as being a really good if not great player at end 2017.

Just disappointed

You're absolutely correct, he is nowhere near what he could be, and even worse, nowhere near what he was

Bull Smith has had a disappointing year. 5 goals 17 and doesn’t get involved enough. A limited player, unlikely to be up to AFL standard

I liked him Drunkn. Especially his first half.

Could have gone a small way to cheering me up from yesterday. Sigh

He paid over the shoulder for their 40 th free for the game. Disgusting umpiring just disgusting.

FUGGIN AWESOME. 2nd time I have watched him. looks the goods.

Umpiring was bad. I hate criticising this aspect of the game but this was up there with the Fri night Port game this year.

Sad thing is apart from Fritta, Pedders looked the best of the bunch out there.

Garlett, Bugg, JKH and Hunt were all marginal.

Thats a lot of dead weight we are carrying.

Umpires took the momentum from us and handed it too them on a platter in that second quarter.

We were killed by our lack of a recognised ruckman. Big need this off season. Fingers crossed for Preuss

It’s time for Bugg to bugger off, no disrespect to the bloke of course.

What a stinker of a captains game. Get stuffed

Coming off the back of zero disposals last week. Should not have been selected

Disappointing for the boys who have been playing there all season that they couldn’t get across the line.

Can’t say I feel too much personal connection to Casey myself though. It surprises me that some are behaving as if this is some extension of yesterday.

Because MFC listed players play there?

What a poo house weekend, all things Red&Blue well and truely [censored] up the bottom. The Dees, Casey and Norwood

Bad things come in threes, well they sure did.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
