Salem - composed and strong (he won me over tonight, I have always thought him too un-involved and weak under pressure)

Vandenberg - very clumsy game

Jetta - tough, skilled, dedicated

Midfield (Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw, Harmes, Tyson) - tough and polished

Weid - big game player

... might be time soon for Garlett !  for a cameo.  the need for speed and fresh legs.

I agree due respect to young Spargo he has been serviceable.  Garlett can smell a goal tackle and use his speed. Played ok in the last 2 casey games. Kicked 4 in a losing side last home and away game. Would be very valuable in a finals game.

I think people are being far too generous with petracca. he dropped 2 basic uncontested marks inside 50, slipped over too much and missed a clutch goal that our team needed so much.

His dropped mark was so costly i'd go as far as to say that it kept geelong in the game for the next 2 quarters.

his kicking is a disgrace and needs to sort it out asap. you can't have forwards that can't kick goals.

I think Spargo would do well from a week off freshener, so he can hopefully return the week after.

He's such a smart player... gets to the right spots to create mayhem.

He has just had a week off in case you weren't aware.

your right Mono. forgot about that. Well, he seems to be getting fatigued;,,,  but it was said more about getting speed into the side, for the Hawks match-ups.

Thing is, who to let out.

The new Grinter with added talent

Grinter was more than reasonable WD ... I included him in my best 22 Demons that I've seen play (as part of a would-be team)

vanders has a ways to go but his vigour,  aggression,  tackling,  presence and hard-at-it approach is worth any number of cheap possessions.  Fritsch has real value in a similar way but for different reasons.

The numbers often doesn't always give us an accurate picture ... the eyes have it though.  And we all witnessed Weideman's impact as well.  The kid might just have it.

Have watched all 3 other finals and the standout team is Richmond ... they can be beaten but only if they don't get to play on their own terms.

Tx Macca. I only bearly remember Grinter. I was told he was really tough. I recall the crowd being excited. My dad would say its time to let him off his leach, so I assumed he wasnt a great talent. But I guess he wouldnt play if not.

I do think Vanders is a talented player. He is our best 22 and I hope he avoids injury and we see what he can do with a lot more games under his belt. His strength is awesome and he doesnt seem to panic and although his disposal has been errant on occassion he always seems to get his hands on the pill.

Wouldnt mind seeing him one on one on the goal square like dusty or danger now and then.

Grinter was highly skilled in the air, and by foot.  And could hit an opponent at the same time he was clutching an overhead mark.

Grinter was actually quite a skilful player ... could mark & kick but he had a bit of dirt about him.  There were better backmen than him around the league but the sport was way different back then where positional play was a staple.  Could run out of defence and set up play but he was no Bruce Doull !

vanders will get better with his disposal and decision making as he plays more footy at the top level ... he's only played 5 games after a long lay-off so there's a decent amount of upside.  Needs to work on his kicking because he can create goal-scoring opportunities for himself due to his ability to take a mark in the forward line.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
