ANB 20 disposals, 9 tackles,

Not bad for a defensive forward.

Spot on, I thought he was great. He's been very good these last few weeks. Very handy!

Having been in Geelong these past two days I’ve had the benefit of exposure to the Geelong Advertiser and its reporting of community affairs.

The one particular story (among many worthy entrants) that caught my eye was about the local lad who required the paper to publish a formal correction after he was caught unlicensed and doing wheelies with an unfortunate rabbit tied to his rear bumper.

Anyways, the Advertiser reported (incorrectly) that he had been arrested on the spot and charged and he required a retraction -  namely that he had merely been charged and not arrested  (facts not in dispute)

Advertiser’s mistake publicly acknowledged.

Anyways, I recommend this journal as an indicator of where the current state of society sits - it never ever disappoints.

But back to the matter in hand -  with its back page lead of how Gazza was gunna show them and with so many fulsome articles on how Melbourne would be overawed what with their almost total lack of finals experience and with the astonishing talent of Dangerfield, Tommy Boy, Selwood etc it would appear that the possibility of Melbourne winning the game was almost unthinkable.

What a thrill to see that pressure and energy from a great group playing for each other and the team -  beats the individualists

and having watched Nathan Jones through the dark years as our only quality player at times, it’s been a joy to see his faithful service to our club return a dividend in his second final appearance.

 Thanks so much Nate

ANB was good, he would have been very good if he took his chances

Absolutely he was.  Some people have made up there mind though...

Not even the absolute shizenstorm that was Richmond station after the game is gonna take the smile off my dial.

What an absolute cracker. The atmosphere was amazing.

I could get used to these so called finals.

Selwood penalized was karma for dangerfields ruck trick last time.

Yeh it was almost as if the umpires were getting one back for being played with at the Cattery in rnd18! How proud are we of the boys tonight, just sensational! Go Dees!

History would lean in favour the the defeated qualification finalists over the winning elimination ones - but we're going to start as red-hot favourites next week vs. the Hawks.

Alex Neal Bullens tackling and pressure in the first 10 minutes was as good as it gets.

Then we tagged Viney in and Geelong had no respite.

We bullied them into submission.  They were scared.

Wow what a game and atmosphere. The members was rocking tonight. It was nice to sit around all Melbourne supporters. I hared Jones say it felt like an interstate crowd except they were all cheering for us.

Juts loved the 1st quarter. It was great. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would kick the 1st 5 and hold them goalless.

Loved Weidermans game. Brilliant marking and a handy 3 goals.

Jetta was fantastic. He gets knocked, pulled, pushed but still gets up and gives everything.

Jones, so happy for him that he kicked the 1st goal of that final term.

Loved harmse's game. Enjoyed Frost down back as well, even Oscar took some nice marks.

Just happy happy happy. Max Gawn is just the best. We are so lucky to have him.

Spargo and Tyson, only ones down on form tonight. Otherwise an even contribution

Back in hotel trip worth it. Dees fans everywhere. The boys believe and so do I.

Yeah! The pressure was amazing. They had nowhere to go.

I'll sleep like a king tonight.

Can’t wait to watch AFL360 on Monday night and see Scott sit there without that stupid smug look on his fat face.

It will be hilarious.

Also, how good (and handy) were our SMOTHERS!? I don't think I've seen that many smothers in a game before.

Indicative of the game, really

I loved the scenes of Viney and Jones walking off arms around each other with massive smiles.

Gee how good was Viney to. Awesome tackling game.

I reckon AVB had many moments he’d like back too. Did a heap right though.

Spargo will continue to concern me this year if he holds his spot.

Well done boys. You were amazing! Fair play to the umpires tonight. Thought they were pretty good overall in a tough game.

Very happy!

Like Spargo game against GWS, but he was poor tonight. His kicking penetrating worries me. Maybe Jeff or JKH in

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.
