Far out...  beating that [censored] in the finals is the stuff of dreams.  Lets send him and his 'holy trinity' crying back down the road to Geelong.

How amazing have the last two games been? Everything we could have hoped for and more.

wow what a win. I cannot recall the team being as physical as they were today, they were bumping the GWS players all day long. AVB  was particularly brutal in his tackles.  Players shepherded more today than i can recall seeing in the past. Gawn, what can you say about the big man that has not been said all year long, if he is not tapping to advantage his taking saving marks in defense or attack. JHK was terrific his tackling, putting his body on the line and deft passes to team mates shows he has the skills to play AFL football well. He needs more time to develop and feel part of the team, much like frost needed.  the rest of the team awesome, truly awesome.

Oh here I am about to take this ripper mark and win a Brownlow and oh seagull whoops I've dropped it.

Harmes and Spargo's crumbing (this and the Gawn vid above) impeccable front and centre.

What a win.  The injuries weren't ideal but after the first 15 minutes we smashed them off the park.

Everything about this game screamed that we are finals ready.  The contested ball, the defence, the class, the synergy... it was beautiful to watch.  We had winners all over the ground.

Maxy dominated again and should go close in the Brownlow.

Our young midfield - Oliver, Gus and Harmes in particular - are sensational.  Harmes has had a brilliant second half to the season and he beat Kelly and won plenty of the ball himself.

Our defence was excellent.  Frost was terrific and our older heads in Jetta, Hibberd and Lewis marshalled the troops superbly.  It took time but our back half is working so well now with Lever not there.

Melky and T Mac were great up forward and Trac provides the X-factor.

Little Spargo, while he still makes mistakes, had a hand in a number of goals with class plays that put his tremendous footy IQ on display.

I can't wait to take on the Cats in a fortnights time.  We are a better side than them and I'd love nothing more than to pull their pants down and send them back down the highway.

DEMONS!

You overlooked the wonderful game Salem played. A quality footballer

Might have been JKH's best game, but I reckon the big win has led to some rose-coloured glasses. Spargo was very ordinary again, despite a couple of good things. Gotta be in doubt for our first final on form, but the injuries are mounting up.

Watch the highlights again - he's in about 8-10 of them

My god do I hate everything about Geelong. Especially their coach and captain. Nothing would be sweeter than beating the crap out of them in 2 weeks.

It’s a dream come true!

For the love of god Goody don’t put Omac on Hawkins.

As someone who had basically lost interest in the season just a few weeks ago, it's good to see you back and fired up, Jaded.

And I echo your sentiments - smashing those arrogant bastards in two weeks time would be so, so good!

If you watched on TV you would have heard a loud roar whenever they kicked a goal.  Directional mike pointed at their 15 person cheer squad works wonders.

Former Home and Away actors paid by Gil and Co to make them look more relevant

I bet Selwood is looking forward to Viney coming back!

Yes, seeing Chris Scott with the ‘Car City’ eyes after Melbourne touch them up!!

Anyone else notice Max's new hitout technique in the last few weeks?

He is hitting the ball really wide over the top of the clearance pack where a demon midfielder is waiting to whisk it away.

This is really clever as 1) it is very hard for opp to counter as they expect Max to drop it in/near the centre square.   2) it makes up for our lack of leg speed on the outside.

Hawks and Syd neutralised Max by roving to his hitouts.   The Pies neutralised Max by their midfielders being faster than ours.  This new 'Hit the Ball Over The Top' technique will render both op strategies less effective.  He doesn't do it all the time so there is a surprise element when he does.  But our mid-fielder waiting to receive outside of the pack knows ?

This has enabled us to modify the game plan and not have a player or two coming off the back of the square.

I never lost interest in the season. I just didn’t want to go thru the rollercoaster of emotions of missing finals again so decided to just go with the flow of whatever happens happens and expecting the worst but hoping for the best. Still went to every game. Still planned my next work trip to ensure I’m here for the GF. Still enjoyed the highs and lows of the ball in the hands of Frost.

How good was Frost? A stellar game today. Some of his kicking was exceptionally good, and he's just so damn quick. He was great to watch.

Gawn continues to have a huge impact and I'd love to see him win the Brownlow this year.

I've thought Harmes has been really good since getting more time in the midfield, and I love that he's getting some accolades.

Trac continues to infuriate me with his inconsistent disposal and his at-times lazy and/or poor decisions, but did some really good things and I want him to set the finals alight.

Really disappointing that Tyson was injured, because in the past 2.5 games I reckon he was in the best form I've seen for him in about two seasons.

I must have been watching a different player to you. Even though he had some good moments and it was a better game than versus WCE, I thought he was probably our worst player for the day. I'll be interested to see whether I see it differently on the replay.

Unfortunately he's visibly spent during the games much of the time, and can't fulfill his role in the zone/chase his man. Maybe the fact he's running his guts out effects his kicking, because it's diabolically bad at times. I don't even know if he'll carve out a 100+ game AFL career, let alone be a huge asset, so we're a fair way apart in our views.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it like this. I reckon he's been struggling for a month+.

Don't know mate, but given they pick him game after game after game, with Bugg in particular and and Garlett doing ok in the 2s, means you've probably got it wrong!

Harmes is acting out:  'My Heart beats true, for the red and the blue'.  :)

What a dream come true for Harmes:  Barracked for the Dees as a kid.  Drafted as a rookie.  Earnt a permanent spot on the seniors list.

Now playing for his beloved Demons in a final.

How good is the pass from Harmed in that play. He's showing me more than I ever thought he had in him. I knew he had guts and could bob up with a goal but his skill level over the last month has gone up a notch.

I'm almost ready to put Max in the palming royalty of Polly, Mick Nolan and Max,  just amazing work today. He is almost reversing which way he is palming by bringing his hand around to face/deliver in the opposite direction to which he was running towards.

Just a note on VDB. Doesn't he put the fear of the lord into our forward half. What a team effort today, a calm, measured performance.

Btw, any updates from Doctor Who? Is his support for GWS still ongoing?

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
