Josh Kelly is rated one of the best outside midfielders going around atm and is in a club that will have cap issues. Name someone else that is more gettable atm.

Couldn't care about how he is rated.

Petracca was 'rated' as the best player in the game 2 weeks ago by MULTIPLE people.

Come off it.

And what’s your brilliant plan? Put Dunkley on the wing. Please.

To let players have a crack and prove themselves.

Brayshaw has had a crack and isn't performing.

Kelly isn't anything flash either and has come from the same culture that Tomlinson has, they reckon they have tickets to the game, rather than be apart of it.

Would be great to get a Rolls Royce outsider but they cost a lot even if you can poach one. Of our current players we have Langdon and we should be using Petracca in the outside role. I love Tracca in the middle but we have Oliver, Viney and Brayshaw who can play inside so how do we maximise Tracca on the outside? Does he play wing, then drift forward rather than play in the guts?

Don't you think we've let that happen far too long for little result back? The lack of finals success in the last 15 years speaks for itself in an alarming rate.

Doesn’t have the tank.

Sorry he does have a tank now because we are playing him in the midfield this year. And you don’t necessarily need more tank to be on the outside than on the inside! You need to know where to run to, have some speed and have good disposal to be an outsider, Tracc has all of that.

Langdon & Tomlinson we’re brought in for outside run... Langdon has played well & Tomlinson can’t get a game...  Mahoney words

"We’re very excited to add Adam to our list as a free agent – he fills a very important need for our team," Demons general manager of football operations Josh Mahoney told melbournefc.com.au.

"He's played a number of different roles for the Giants, but predominantly what we'e looking for is someone who can run up and down the MCG on the wing.

"Adam is an elite runner and at 194cm, he has the versatility to provide us with a number of options, either forward or back.

Not sure if this is the thread for this but Tomlinson is a genuine concern. His run and carry is good, but blimey he can butcher the ball and/or just blindly kick. Hearing the commentary it didn't sound as though the players were using him correctly but can you blame them if the first thing he is going to do is just blindly kick the ball long because he can't think of anything else to do?

so he isnt an improvement on Frost or Hunt

Zac Williams is the one we should be clearing room for and throwing cash at. He is exactly what we need in player type and age profile. This and the fact he is a free agent means its about cap space and convincing him to come without us being hindered by our lack of draft picks or trade value direct to them. Our inside mids is where we are heavy as we know but we need to consider that next year it will go back to full length quarters and the need for more rotation and a game length better suited to players like Brayshaw and Harmes etc... will be back.

The other I would be seeing what it would take to get is Jack Sinclair at StKilda. Again hard runner with speed and skills in the right age bracket for us and whilst has played the last couple at Saints is on the fringe of their best side when fully fit.

Throw the book at Josh Kelly and Matt Crouch. Get rid of two of Brayshaw, Oliver or Harmes. Jones to retire.

That will balance the midfield.

Also do what you can to get in Papley or Elliot. Maybe trade The Mac brothers (Sydney) or Weeds for Elliot.

You could throw Jesus H Christ into the middle and Goodwin still can't coach.

The blow torch needs to go on Mahoney also he’s brought in players who all can’t kick well & hit targets. Look at the top sides kicking efficiency vs us

Exactly. Tomlinson was not the player to bring in. He never was any likelihood of being a wingman type.  Endurance runner best suited to CHF /CHB role.

Zak Jones was missed for a second time.  He wanted out of Sydney and despite the potential to play with his brother, the Saints got him.

Even Jack Newnes was available at half the price of Tomlinson.

If I had one dream draft pick right now for our team, or a magic wand to wave over one player and 'complete' them, it would be to add someone like Dyson Heppell, Marc Murphy, or, obviously, Pendlebury.

heppell is the peptides' nathan jones, murphy has always been a pretty average player in average sides, and pendlebury is arguably the greatest magpie ever

Heppell is inconsistent, but when he's on, a much better decision maker and ball user than Jones has ever been.

nup, ask most peptiders what they think of him and they rate him the same way we have nate for the last 15 years - good honest servant who is ultimately a b-grader

they much prefer zerrett, for instance

I reckon we could do worse than getting Witherden to slot in at half back and moving Salem to the wing.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
