Perhaps, but I felt our backline runners like Hibbo were too busy defending talls and too easily isolated away from the contest, because we knew we were too short down there. Jetta is a damn marvel though. 

Hannan had a few shots on goal from marks. He isn’t really a crumber in my opinion. We need a speedy goal sneak. Garlett needed to play or Spargo needed to stay. It was always going to be a contested battle so not sure why we didn’t go with a smaller fleet of forwards like the last few weeks.

This was a game for mature bodies. Tyson and Harmes are at least mature. We lost, but it wasn't because of coaching decisions.

We lost it due to a lack of skill going inside 50 and non-existent crumbing options once it was in there.

10 inside midfielders was too many.

Hardly.  Against the Tigers, for example, he had 22 touches, 9 marks and kicked 2 goals.  Fair night for a key forward.  He had 24 touches against the Hawks as well.

He's had some down games this year, but on the whole it's been a good return for a bloke who missed the majority of 2017.  You potting the bloke is pretty [censored] poor to be honest.

I agree Jaded. Hibberd was our best rebounder last year. This year he is way off that form.

The Umpires annoy the hell out of me, and I honestly thought they were OK for most of the game.  It's like they got told off at half time and changed tack to make things easier for Port.  Tat being said, they did not cost us the game. 

What did cost us the game is the fact that we ad ore inside 50's than we had points scored.  We scored from a pathetic 30.7% of forward 50 entries.  That is a direct result of reverting to high directionless bombs rather than trying to actually hit targets.  We cost ourselves the win by refusing to pass the damn ball and instead just banging in the high bomb and hoping someone could take a spekkie.

All I remember of him in the Richmond game was the around-the-body snap he went for late in the 3rd quarter from 35m directly in front, which should have been a set shop drop punt, that missed and sapped all our momentum. Again it's a goal that I expect my $800k a year forwards to kick.

I don't accept this stuff because it's mediocrity. Big dollars, big matches, big moments, little return. 

Shouldn’t we be fresh coming off a bye? 2 points in the last quarter is pathetic

On that note, we did lack composure going inside-50 on occasion - but the game was so tight and contested in the packs that it almost felt like a wet-weather match at times (in which we've previously been poor) - with players bashing it forward to the next contest at every opportunity.

We had a bit more clear ball going inside-50 but couldn't switch mindset/approach when needed - not a huge cross in the context. Still a lot of split contests - just lacked sufficient clean crumbing. Garlett, as has been mentioned, may have helped. Fritsch and Hannan are small-percentage opportunists - some weeks they'll hit and others not. ANB and Melksham too. 

Skuit - there is only one intensity, and thats score board! Goaless for 30 minutes isnt good enough. We looked flat footed 5 minutes into the last.

I liked Fritsch, and Hannan played well too. 

Where we lowered the eyes and found players we did well. 

All in all, we just werent good enough.

In hindsight, maybe. And that's a BIG maybe. Leading into the game we had the #1 scoring offence in the league, but had lost back to back games in the clearances by so much it was ridiculous. Goody's changes had the desired effect. Smashed the clearances, but the forwards who up til then had been dominant, went missing.

My point is you can't crack the [censored] at selection when they're picking the in form players, putting out spot fires and doing it effectively. Noone in the league right now would have imagined the demons would score under 90 points against that mob. The selections were fine. We were beaten on the day by a pretty good team playing at home with massive crowd help and umpire bias.

I thought at many times in the last quarter it felt like WC over there last year. In and around the byes. Tough, physical contest. Lots at stake. 5-8 type team. Felt like we couldn't win it in the last quarter and then, somehow, we did...

This time we didn't... but I dunno if it was THAT dissimilar. Lots to like in this game, unlike the Tigers, Hawks and Pies games.
