I’d look at Freos Sean Darcy for a backup/team ruck for Gawn.

From Geelong Falcons and has played 8 games averaging 34 HOs per game

thoughts?

That's the exact reason we don't know how good he could he could be. He was a relatively  high draft pick. Putting him on a rookie list won't hurt and if he's still injured all of next year delist him.

Watch list- Sloane, Gaff, Mackay

interested in - Wright (Suns), Darcy (Freo) Campbell (Dogs).  Backup rucks behind Gawn but all are also forward capable.

Speed is also in focus. Dahlhaus?

Delistings probables - Mckenna, Vandenburg, Johnstone

Delistings possibles- JKH, Kent, Pedersen, King,  Bugg, Filipivic (r)

trade possibilities  - Frost, Tyson

Sloane is too old for our list. Gaff is what we need, Mackay is what we don't need.

I don't think we need a back up ruckman, Weideman will do a good enough job until youngsters like King, Filipovic and Bradtke step up.

Dahlhaus hasn't had a kick for 2 years damaged goods.

Has a bit of weight to lose but I thought he looked pretty promising last season. Definitely wouldn’t be against this.

Probably Buckley’s as he’d be the next great hope after Sandi?

Any backup for Gawn, has to be a powerful mark, around the ground, and packs.

His backup, has to have lots of marking stats, this should be the primary stat, at an young age.  The hitouts will come with strength, but the marking ability is there, or not there.

Hitouts are overrated, unless they are in our players hands directly,,, and then the opposition will just hunt our Mids closely.  We have to get the clearances, and we have to control the flow of the game, around the wings and flanks, with marking ability, and top kicking.

Mitch McGovern from Adelaide. One of the best contested marks in the comp, still only 23.

If we added him to Gawn, Hogan, T Mac, Fritsch and Lever..   our marking power would be absurd.

I think he’s a gun and Freo wouldn’t part with him easily.  If he’s wanting to come home though, I’d be very happy to see us pursue him.

I'd have a dip at Braydon Preuss, but he may want the number 1 ruck role which a club like Geelong may offer him.  Not sure he would be happy playing second fiddle to Gawn like he is to Goldy.

The ruck situation is a worry, with both of our developing or 'project' ruckmen being on the 'could go either way' list.

Hopefully there's some unsighted potential there and we can keep at least one of them on and look to trade in a mature ruck to help out.

It's looking very thin below Gawn and we need King or Filipovic to show something in the second half of the season.

we've got bradtke next year ?

I would like to see McKenna at VFL level first before putting a line though him. He hasn't really played so he is a massive unknown.

yeah, i know who he is. right.. he'd cost a mint though and i think we're still needing 2-3 mids. ah whatever, see how it plays.

I could not disagree more. Vanders has had a couple of reasonable games in an injury crippled career. He's soooooo far away from 100% it's very doubtful he will play seniors this year, maybe not again. Brayshaw was a star before his concussion issues (remember his first game with 9 tackles?) And has made a sensational comeback to the extent that he would surely be near the top of the target list for Freo and WCE to join his brothers. He most certainly has a couple of 3 vote Brownlow games this year.

Keep Vanders and get rid of Gus? Crazy talk.

Vanders has gonads the size of a football and Does the hard stuff, seriously the Brownlow goes is your idea of quality? Mathews, Carey and Ablett snr how how many of these medals between them?

Preuss or Lycett, Lobb,...

Rory Lobb, already mature,,, in a team that has gone backwards this year.

He has the best marking average over his career, of these 3 rucks.
Lobb an Lycett are ready to roll, to fill in Now.

I think strong marking and big numbers of marks, is the key.  the rest can follow, if you will.  These types can ruck, or be dangerous forward.

 - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

players of interest ? for our side.

Lachie Whitfield.

Matt Buntine.

.

If DShiel shakes loose, I want us to know.

So just to get this straight.... you'd keep a guy that's played a handful of senior games over a few years, who's had one injury after another, who struggles to get on the park,  just because of the size of his nuts and he goes in hard.... rather than keep a tough midfielder with excellent skills who also goes in hard, is reaching peak form, has a couple of BOGs already this year and is highly respected amongst his teammates, including the captain???

Keep Vanders and remove Gus from our list? Again, crazy talk.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
