Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

From the first bounce too, nothing changed at all...

What do all those coaches in the box actually do??

Serious question, i can’t work it out.

So frustrating, I'll direct the blame at lack of leadership for now, not the coach.

Just listened to the Age Real footy podcast re: MFC V CFC

Is it fair to say we might need to trade for a quality backman (I don't which position, not necessarily to cover Lever)?

The Age crew pointed out we are heavily exposed on the backline

Only because the ENTIRE midfield failed for 4 Quarters.

Look for the root problem., not the cosequence.

So Maynard, Dunn, Crisp, Howe, Scharenburg and Langdon is any better? Easy to say in hindsight. I would venture to say that if the midfield clearance dominance was reversed, then it would have been us by 7 goals!

I can recall us beating both North and Adelaide.

Why don’t they count?

The North win stacks up in my book. They are a good side and people still can't acknowledge that fact. They will finish 5th-7th.

Having said that, if the North win ends up being the highlight of our season, you can be pretty confident that the back end of our season won't be anything to write home about.

Brayshaw as a tagge

Gus did some great solo efforts in the moments - and I mean plural moments - when off the tagger role for instants when elements of the game created an opportunity for him to exploit.

Gus, for all of the expectation, hope and criticism that can be hurled his way in a season of football, is not a tagger but instead, a play maker. He is a bloody good one, at that.

Some critical anti-Filth planning and decision-making by the MFC went bottom up, were particularly sour and ineffective, right from the start. The umpires recognised this and then proceded very early in the game to dismantle the Dees' hard effort and method by deliberately 'creating rules' for the desired outcomes of the game, with an AFL licence to so do. After all, it was the Filth who were playing for their 'bums-on-seats' second half of the season.

We also played the MCG very poorly with drive being concentrated on the Members' flank, for some reason despite huge green pastures available for most of the game through the central corridor from deep in defence to deep in attack. This greenery extended for each quarter (almost) along the parallel corridors of southern flank including its midline, again for almost the entire length of the ground. Our mids, when in possession, turned right to play the ball into congestion. There were no space rangers anticipating a more open game style inside the free corridors.

I used to post alot back in the Schwab/Scully/Neeld era when it seemed like every second week we were embroiled in a scandal of sorts. Demonland was good for picking up inside info or sharing views on that sort of stuff.

Now that were a half decent side with little off field issues  i cant stand the hand wringing. Ffs, the season is only half way done, and people are assuming we cant improve or beat anyone above us. Luck with Injury and form can be fleeting.

Long way to go to make the finals for most sides, not just us.

Go dees

Thanks for that post, DWA, uplifting after the weekend. We just have to get back on the bike and work smarter.

Gotta admit, despite the loss, it was an absolute pleasure being secretly flown to the game from Sydney, without my prior knowledge, with most of my immediate family flanked beside me to watch the game! We’ve got work to do, the earlier in the season we learn that the better!!!

Putting Monday's aberration behind us and adding a touch of optimism, I reckon we can finish with 14 wins.

Saints - win

WB. -     win

GC -       win

GWS -   win  ( despite our last round of season history)

This means

Port  -     win  ( we simply cannot afford to lose this)

And one of

Freo -       ( at our best yes but these home games in the mulga concern me)

Adelaide   ( They'll be tougher next time but we flogged them once why not again?)

I don't think we will miss finals.

To me we not only need to make finals we need to show we are a true finals contender.  The test for this I think will be round 21 vs Sydney at the G.

In that game we will need to:

  • Deal with big time expectations/pressure
  • Beat an inform top team
  • Show our game plan stands up at the G vs smart, well disciplined, well coached teams.  (Our MCG wins have been vs poor/average teams, as are those before rnd 21).
  • Redeem our abysmal 2017 performance vs Syd at the G: 7.8.50 vs 11.19.85  (15 scoring shots to 30!!)

If we lose other 'tests' vs good teams (Port and Geelong) the pressure for the Syd game will be very higher on the richter scale.

Round 21 is the litmus test for how much we have improved!   It is the closest 'like for like' we have to 2017.  We will have everything to play for and to show how much we have improved physically, mentally and tactically.  Players and coaches will need to be at their 100% best to beat Sydney.

Win and we will the finals a decent shake.  Lose and we will be making up the numbers.

Pretty much agree with that except maybe GWS as they are getting there very best players back from injury.

Only thing is we will not have taken a real 'scalp' all season ie an in-form team at the time we beat them (except maybe Port).

While I do believe that once in the finals anyone can win the silverware unless we can beat a couple of Port, GWS, Cats, Swans, Eagles then I don't like our chances of going very far in September.

I want to see us do more than just make the finals and would hate for us to go out in a landslide like Ess or close shave like Port last year.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
