I know I should have gotten over it by now, but every time I see Ollie Wines, I think of Toumpas and want to vomit and cry.

I know Toumpas is no Ollie, but he wasn’t even an AFL standard player and taken at 4.

Just sad. A terrible wasted opportunity.

Oliver softens the blow Redleg, if we took Wines i don't think we would have got Oliver.

Someone tell me how Razor Ray gets a gig?

The guy is a dead set [censored].

I bet he gets the afl grand final because the w@#$ers at afl house and channel 7 think his dribble to players makes great TV

That could be true, but the fact is that whether or not we got Ollie, we totally wasted pick 4 when we could have and should have got another good footballer.

He was the right pick at the time though. Other clubs passed on Wines after us too and industry consensus was with Toumpas. It's what happens when you draft 17 year old players who play in leagues with different rules and coaching.

I hate Rance. He's played poorly but the commentators won't admit it.

Jack Watts is an embarrassment

But thankfully no longer to us

Fined this week ..... surely if there is ever to be a suspension this serial offender deserves to be the prototype.

Didnt see the match nor hear the commentary but did Brooooose cream himself and say how brave Prancer is in this contest?

Another club, not clubs. I was so happy when Toumpass slid to 4 after seeing him in the nationals. I wasn't as confident once his highlight video was released after the draft.

GWS messed up pick 2 and 3.

Bulldogs took Macrae and Stringer with 5 and 6 which were both understandable decisions.

The SANFL players are as hard to judge as the talls with the early picks.

For ———sake  leave Watts alone. I hate  this carping on every time he makes a mistake or plays poorly. He gave loyal service to our club over a long period in difficult times, he deserves respect. We should just wish him well and leave it at that.

Just watched the second quarter and with 4:50 min to go, Richmond's Miles, being tackled around the chest, lifted his left arm to push the tackler's arm up towards his neck and was paid a free kick. Umpire 8-10 mtrs away with a perfect view. I thought the umpire dept was outlawing the "Selwood" free.

The dribble from 7's commentary team was the worst I have ever heard. I actually screamed at the TV with Ling's comments. ABSOLUTE idiot. He makes BT sound good.

Incredible that Port can score one goal for the second half with a lead of 24pts at half time and win the game. The second half was Sevens worst nightmare

Compounded by the fact that the Blues have a bye for the round which means they couldn't showcase the competition's worst side on the Friday night stage this week.

If we had Wines then chances are we wouldn’t have Petracca, Brayshaw and Oliver.

Jack Watts reached his career peak on QB last year. All downhill from there.

It was his grand final...

But that’s the point, I don’t think he was the right pick at the time . I recall he was injured when we drafted him and he never showed anything over here.  He was rather short and dumpy and was supposed to be an outside mid but was slow. His skills were poor also. I think whether or not we got Ollie he was a poor pick.

The main point of my post is that at pick 4 you should be able to pick a player not a dud.

It's nothing personal, the comments are more directed to those who said the club would fall apart if we got rid of him, the players loved him, he was our only good kick etc

I only caught the 2nd half last night and cant believe port held on without kicking a goal in that final term. But I was going for port because now if we win we grab 2nd.

But what was with ports game plan just to kick it down the boundary and aim for there. If they do that against us in a few weeks we will just plant Max there to mark the ball.

On Rance I don't think he took another dive but gee Im telling you put him 1 on 1 and he gives away frees all the time. a couple of times last night he was penalised for holding. also how angry does he get when things don't go his way? Id hate to see how he was as a kid when his parents said no to him.

Anyway melbourne please win because 2nd spot would look good.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
