How many father/sons have played for the

MFC?

Perhaps we can use this thread to discuss the best Father Son combinations at the Dees.

Ron Barassi Snr and Jnr - 7 Flags between

them.

I'm not sure if he had any sons, but Robert Flower combined with the zero games played by any sons he may have had was still a better combination than most of the father/son combinations we've had to date.

From my personal observations, the Vineys win the contest.

Ron Barassi Jnr was an absolutely inspirational freak, but I never saw his dad in action.

Are there any here old enough to have seen Barassi Snr before his tragic demise?

I understand what you said but it's irrelevant in the context of the subject matter.

Yes. I guess that didn’t pan out as planned.

However if you told the 2018 me that Farmer jnr wouldn’t have made it but we’ll win a Premiership in 3 years time you know which one I’d take.

Ahhh the old timestamparoo got me there. I think we all were waiting with anticipation on Farmer’s boy.

Anyone know what Wiz Junior is up to these days?

Hopefully Woey's boy turns in a win and in the near future Nathan Brown and Jeff White's boys are added to the list.

Nathan Brown’s kids were at the same junior club as my kids a few years back. They were good and placed in club B&F, but they weren’t dominant like most juniors who make it to AFL are. So I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Here is a list of all players drafted under the father and son rule from all clubs.

Interesting, just reading through the list (ie have not done the data analysis) it would seem by a fair margin the son more often than not fails to reach the same number of games than the father. So generally fail to reach the same level ?? Genetics not a good guide?

I love the drafting rule though!!

Correct. Look at it the other way around. Look how many games sons have played whose fathers' played zero games. That's most of the competition, after all.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
