Watch the Nathan Jones interview on the club website and it also has a couple of hints that we are certainly in the hunt.

I have very strongly suspected for months that we are a huge chance, and nothing from the past couple of days dampens that hope.

Not hard to see whats happening..  Gaff will be a Demon.  And I welcome him with open arms.

Andrew to meet Gaff during the week . . . over a round of golf.

Plot curdles.

If I heard correctly it was Hamish’ idea, so unsure it thickens or curdles

What if turns out that they had in fact played golf last week and Nisbett was right? Do we get a retrial?

Or the plot twist that no one predicted: Gaff squeezes Gus out of team for his Demon debut.

Maybe it’s mentioned elsewhere, but Gaff’s punch and subsequent 8 week ban has put a huge hole in the second placed Weagles attempt at winning this years flag.

Equivalent to us losing Oliver.

Given it was Gaffs fault/decision/impulse, there’d be many at West Coast seething at their star midfielders course of action...

again, I’d be p!ssed at Carry if he’d done the same, and cost us a tilt at the flag.

I don’t follow the Eagles closely. Is he actually as important to them as Oliver to us? If so my desire to have him in red and blue next year just cranked up a couple of notches.

Well he is second favourite for the brownlow, sorry was second favourite.

TBH I've never been a huge Gaff fan, but there is no doubt he fills a big need for us in terms of a better inside/outside mix.

So having not followed the tribunal hearing was it 9 down to 8?

is impact not taken into consideration? Buggy would have every right to feel aggrieved. Or did the 'good guy'' defence play out  as vs a ''serial pest?'

Just heard Mark Brayshaw on SEN.  He spoke exactly as I suspected.

Thankfully, he has far more class than the outrage merchants on here who seem to salivate during these types of unfortunate events.

If there's one thing to learn by this incident and the Bugg one, it is, how far social media has gone. It's almost trial by social media these days and the punishment is dished out accordingly. Gaff to Dees & social media destroyed for the greater good of man kind would be a dream result. I think Denzel summed it up beautifully

If as it seems, that jumper punching will incur suspension, there needs to be a change to allow forwards and midfielders to get away from grabbing hands that stop them from leading and spreading.

In Buggs case it was Heeney that was holding his jumper and that looked the same with Andy Brayshaw as Gaff was attempting to run into space.

Im not sure of the answer but disallowing a player to get free needs to be looked at.

Mark Brayshaw’s interview brings some much needed perspective to the feeding frenzy.

I wish he’d spoken sooner, but I’m sure he was careful not to minimise such an act prior to judgment. This incident has come to be about more than just Gaff & Brayshaw.

I don’t feel sorry or sad for Gaff. At least not yet. He smashed a kid in the face for no reason. It was no accident. Whoops I meant to punch your chest? Screw that

He looked right at him and lined him up. Don’t care if it was a brain fade or whatever, this will have a big impact on brayshaw life and on his family.

disagree. He definitely didn't mean to punch him in the face. Those swinging right hands are usually targeted into the chest/top of the jumper region but gaff missed. Gaff certainly didn't look at him and punch him in the face. not sure what vision you were watching.

He is currently 5th on the AFL coaches association champion player of the year award leaderboard. The top 4 are Mitchell, Gawn, Cripps, Oliver.

He is definitely that good and would easily be one of our top 5 players, albeit he will start to decline in three next few years.

Have said this before, but the answer is actually pretty simple; pay a free kick for contact of the ball (5 metres).  Its pretty much already in the rules:

1) you aren't allowed to tackle (grab) a player without the ball

2) you are not allowed shepherd a player more than 5 metres off the ball

3) you are not allowed bump a player more than 5 metres of the ball

apply theses and it all stops.

Oh and then enforce the a simple rule amendment, if your closed fist makes contact with another player then it's an automatic 1 week suspension (If an AFL player is that careless, clumsy, clueless, that the can't hit the ball with their fist then they shouldn't be playing at this level / the don't have the skills)

Couldn't agree more. If umps were doing their job properly, rather than taking instructions from head office on what frees to pay, we wouldn't be here right now.

I thought it was meant to be Andrew Brayshaw meeting Gaff?? Was stated in the Herald Sun??

I too feel for Gaff for a number of reasons:

  • He is genuinely heartbroken for the incident.
  • He knows what it is like to be the victim.  2 years ago he was on the receiving end of a Jonas elbow to his head.  It was in a marking contest but Gaff had no idea it was coming.  Jonas got 6 weeks.  Some argued it should have been 8.
  • He now has 8 months to sweat it out before taking the field again and have a chance to redeem his reputation.
  • Players play to participate in finals and hopefully win a premiership.  Missing 2 to 4 finals is a bigger penalty than 8 home and away games.

On DL we are especially emotional over this incdent because Andy is Gus' little bro and most are keenly interested in getting Gaff to our club.  Any other two players from other clubs and I doubt it would have anywhere near as much attention.

Gaff at the Dees?  I think he fits the Goodwin type player of tough, competitive and humble.  The way he has conducted himself in the aftermath of a very sad episode says a lot about his character.

Edit:  Thanks @MSFebeyfor adding the video of the Jonas/Gaff incident in post below.  Gaff was out cold before he hit the ground and stayed there for a very long time.  A player does not easily forget the damage a hit to the head can do.  Gaff's remorse is especially compelling in the circumstances.

Referee the game in accordance with the rulebook? Novel concept. Can't see it taking off.

Nailed it in one sentence.

If the umpires penalise the kidney punches and elbows and blatant holds and pay what they see, instead of what they are are told to see, these incidents would probably never happen.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
