Lever is simply just going to the wrong position three quarters of the time and never effects the contest.

Really concerning how much he isn't clicking

It takes two. It's not just Lever, it's the players downfield as well.

Goodwin being shown up again today. Organization and strategy with ball today has been atrocious. I wish we had a coach who could organize this group properly because it’s a top 4 team playing below their ability at present.

So glad we had that closed training session to work on that super secret strategy of PANIC BALL.

Hopefully Lever and Bugg remove the rockets lodged in their backsides before they come out for 2nd half.

Same old [censored] different year against this mob. We are playing like rabbits caught in the spotlight. Huge mistake made at selection not playing Pedo instead of that useless Bugg. And get rid of Harmes & bring in Hunt FFS.

You're right, we are in it for sure but i think it's frustrating because we should be winning? kicking behind after behind, making poor decisions inside 50... i just hope we tidy up and win this because we really cannot afford to lose

Absolutely.  Worry and frustration are two different things - I'm frustrated that we didn't take our chances, but not worried about the rest of the game ahead.  We are in the game.

Not so sure mate, need a massive 2nd half to win this

We need to correct how we're playing - fix up the fumbles, take our chances and we win.

Not enough reward for our dominance this quarter. Need a goal or 3 more to make it feel right.

Spot on chook. the hawks are mentally harassing US, turning US into the 'hunted'.

We started to fumble the thing, and overuse it, Because of this tactic.

In the 2nd Qtr the hawks started to move the ball with a free abandon,,, whilst we felt harassed by the perception of pressure.

This is where we have to 'grow as a club'...

... we all ( supporters/players ), at the ground,,,,  start to panic a little inside... whilst the hawks just continue to ramp up the defensive pressure on their opponents...  until the opponent cracks.

WE are cracking.... up till half-time.

==============

Here is how the supporters can HELP the team.  >  Take a deep breath and be ready to be solid behind The D's,,,,

and make yourselves feel you want the contest.

DO NOT become conservative,,, and call for our players to move the ball in haste.... to just kick the thing,  to get rid of the ball,  to kick it long.

We need our players to refocus, and to re-find the composure... to lower the eyes and to maintain possession as much as possible, & to start to control the Tempo of the game.

This is where our supporters need to 'change their spots'... to not panic, & to 'start to breath',  LIKE the HUNTER.

Start to HUNT Melbourne.  be the HUNTERS

Don't worry, we've got this.

They kicked 4 goals for the term, we kicked 4 points.  They just took their chances, we didn't.  Plenty of time to fix things up.

Yes I understand, but you’re not even worried? Ok. Glad to see some optimism.

I'm not really one to bag players, but Bugg ... just seems to have zero awareness of what's going on around him.

Still don't feel we can have Harmes, Bugg and ANB in the same team, all 3 of them are a worry with the ball, ANB a bit less so. It's where we need players like Brayshaw to step up.

You can not tell me that Hawks are leading through their own good play. Five goals down to inept football in  the back half. Not only Lever, but poor decision making  is killing this football club.Obviously most of the players grew up in the drought, for they do not know what to do with a wet slippery ball. Hopefully Goodwin rips into them at half time. Not confident of a win at all.

Harmes is way to clumsy and struggles to do anything cleanly. Sick of seeing him constantly going for hangers and failing every time.

And Harmes rucking is a joke. I know we don’t want to go tall in the wet but the whole time Gawn was on the bench was an utter shambles in the middle.

Yep another lost at selection game comin up Goodwin No Idea

I iterated during the week that HARMES AND ANB shpuld both be axed and on todays ( make that CAREER) PERFORMANCES SORRY THEY JUST ARENT AND NEVER WILL BE UP TO IT!

Lever is a seriously limited and fumbly player and we paid several zillion toi get a loose fumbly player Fuuurk

Pedo / Weeds should have played to relieve Max and don't tell me Hunt and  Hannan woukld not have been handy Jeffy shockin today and Bugg well that's Bugg a NQR Player

Another shockin q which only proves to me that we haven't improved at all from last year and will year after Friggen year tease chew us up and spit us out!

NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Not adjusting to the conditions at all.

Over to you Goody.

[censored] off bugg. How can he not be seen anything but a Liability. Breaks every chain with his poor skills and decision making.

Frustrated, not worried.  We have done plenty right, we just haven't taken our chances as yet.  When we do, like we did in the first term, then we'll be back on top and in control of the match.

It is wet you cant play over possession handball football.  Dumb plain and simple

We need Viney

Before the game, I thought to myself the only way Hawthorn would win would be if we fluffed our chances and they nailed theirs. Not feeling good at the moment.

Yep, another post saying "lost at selection". Which you say every week. Even when we win.

games is not over yet there is a lot we can improve and hopefully if that is our worst quarter for the game then we can still win this.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
