Quick hand to foot,  sums it up quick,  agile in close,  hard,  hits targets under pressure.

These skills all translate, let's hope his shoulders hold up.   He plays early 2018 if they do.

Wow, 12 months of work by the recruiters results in us reading out the name of a midget with bad shoulders with our first pick. This ought to end well.

Kid’s 17 years old, will probably grow a few cm in next couple of years.

And anyway 172 cm is a very nice height indeed (especially for an opening bat)?.

Looks a pretty good prospect. Gutsy, competitive, good kick, he even hit a couple of teammates on the chest, which is very unDemonesque. But to make sure he fits in at Melbourne he handballed straight to a teammate's feet. Mons.

I hope the commentators are right with their allusions to 'think Boomer Harvey' due to his stature... I can also think of Ben Ken, David Bain, Robin Nahas and maybe Ricky Jackson :) Welcome kid.

Great little fella pick-up, actually. If he is half as good as Ricky Jackson was then he will be a great asset. Getting ideas that the game plan is more 'running amok' in 2018 than it is in 'prop and shock'. About time - we do not need roving types who belt the ball 'long' scraping the clouds.

Big man, sometimes big brain. Shetland person, all brain! (Please excuse and eliminate Tex Walker from that comparison. He has no brain.

This guy will be a hard match up and will be a valuable asset in our forward line. Not only is he quick off the mark, he can also take a very good grab overhead meaning if he was 1:1 against another small defender you could back him in. Also someone who is touted to be very competitive and can lay a good tackle will help us to ensure we apply more forward pressure which we desperately need.

They were saying on the draft last night that he was considered top 10 last year before injury.

Check out WJ's 2017 draft prospects thread from last year. Few concerns that GWS would get a top-five pick because he was in their academy at the time. Our own Chelly had him going at one!

Today’s Australian did a nice article on him! In fact it is interesting that they selected him to do a feature article on rather than any of the First Round draft picks! ?

Welcome Charlie

Reminds me of a Nathan Jones. It will not take long before he builds up more around the shoulders and you will get a Nathan Jones Mark 2.  ALL GO....       Welcome to the DEES.

Interesting excerpt from the aforementioned Australian article:

"While getting a ride home from training the following week (after dislocating his shoulder), he again dislocated the shoulder as he was resting his arm on the car window. Subsequent surgery ruled him out for the rest of his junior career but a new operational technique has all but guaranteed he will never suffer a similar problem again with that shoulder, no matter how hard he tackles.

Maybe all footballers should have this operation, shoulder injury or not....

I would have thought, with the recent success of some smaller players, that we wouldn't be so negative towards a players height.  Let's give the kid a chance and a few pre-seasons before we start judging him purely on how tall or short he is.

Should fire up well against the Saints then.

Just keep the matches away from the Saints if we play Spargo against them !!!!!!!

Clearly a negative sentiment on Demonland for this kid because of his size.

Anyone got the thread when we drafted Watts in 08? Would love to know the sentiment then out of curiosity.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
