I can't imagine my two boys growing up to support other teams. It would break my heart. The 4yo is well and truly indoctrinated hopefully that won't change. The 2yo is still very young but on the way.

Thats what i thought.  Took them each week they loved going.  Hit school they are the only kids in the class supporting melbourne.  They stick fat with dad for a few more years and then they understand winning and losing.

I hope for your sake we start winning

I cannot believe anyone allows their kids to support other teams.

You think you have a choice CB?

Mine left at the age of 10 for the Bombers and she has been involved in Premiership wins etc. Way more enjoyment than she would have got from the Dees.

Smart girl IMO.

The last 10 years have been extremely tough but my wife (ex-Pie) and three daughters have all stuck with the Dee's. the Woewoden, Neeld and now Watts move has tested their faith though. We really deserve to see some September action in 2018. We haven't received our memberships yet.

Go Dee's!!!!

A few new faces on the calendar.

In:  Jetta, Hunt, Garlett and TMc.

Out: Tyson, Vince, Watts, Brayshaw.

Rapt to see Jetta there.  To go from delisting, to rookie, to AA squad is a superb achievement.  A loyal servant of the club who is the best he can be and still taking on challenges to improve himself.  Respect.

Have been a huge fan of Hunt since I first saw him play, early in 2016, so delighted to see him on the calendar.  A player who did not come in with any fanfare but has worked damn hard to cement his place in the side and now a deserving fan favourite.

Edit: Forgot to mention, Petracca gets the honour of the cover page.

I hope he can justify the cover LH.

It must have been hard, never taking your own kid to a footy game.

It was harder having her gloat every time they beat us which was most of the time. When she become an adult we enjoyed going to games together.

however motherhood and the druggies have effectively removed her from the sport. Since 2014 she has had little interest. Hates Hird with rare passion and little interest in AFL.

So it ended up a good news story after all. Good stuff.

I honestly think I would stop going to games if that happened. May still watch on TV but can't be certain .

Tell her to come to the light and join Melbourne. Better still a Melbourne membership for Christmas.

It is never too late to show her how much you care.

Disagree with this.  Everyone has the right to decide.  Essentially over the past 11 years we have had an inferior product.  If any business had a product that bad for that long they would have shut their doors.  Our supporters have kept this club alive for an extended period, like our players each supporter decides whether they buy in and turn up each week.

Circumstances change both my kids now support other teams you try to steer them towards the team you support but they eventually decide who they will support.  Them supporting other teams comes down to on field performance easy to convince kids when your team is winning when their not is easy for their mates to convince them to change.

I've been supporting Melbourne since I was young in the 1950s. I've been through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, and I still support Melbourne. Melbourne is for life, and I would never change my club or drop my support. Without support, the club is nothing.

I'll leave the idea of "business", "buying", "product" and changing "suppliers" to things like phone contracts, power companies and banking. Not for my football club.

If you've managed to stay with Melbourne for the last 11 years, why would you leave now that things are really starting to look up?

Unfortunately contacting the footy department will have no impact.

I don't believe they listen to us, the members, (that includes me who remains as yet unsigned after round 23).

Last 2 years I have asked them not to send YET ANOTHER SCARF in my pack.

Made no difference because they are not listening. I want a year patch I can sew onto my scarf, not a new scarf every flaming year.

What, I'm going to find a use for them? It's landfill.

They just want my money and despite taking out my first membership in 1964 I'll be blowed if I will support them in 2018.

What's it matter - the AFL will prop us up anyhow, my cash won't make a scrap of difference in this day and age.

After 50+ years of being a member, that’s the reason you’re not renewing?? Bizarre.

Try Airbnb. You should be able to get $80-100/night close to the “G”!

No need to do that... just use a site like Hotels.com to find the best deals... my son and I always get a comfortable hotel in the middle of the city for around the $120 per night mark.

The footy department have been wonderfully helpful every time I have contacted them, but they are hardly going to make an exception for you and provide a year patch to keep you on board.

As for what you could do with the scarves, how about donating them to one of the charities that clothes and feeds the homeless... I'm sure a scarf (regardless of the team) would be greatly appreciated by some of those doing it tough during the winter months.

As was stated by another poster, it is a pretty bizarre reason for not renewing.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
