There goes that fresh start in Mildura....

I believe this is from a little while ago as his lawyer argued against a prison sentence as he has already taken steps to rectify his mistakes by paying everything back to the person in full, moving back to his home town and getting a role with his local footy club.

Doesn't excuse for one second the absolutely stupid decisions he has made, but it seems he has fallen so far that he has no choice but to try and climb back out of the hole he has made.  I hope this is the last we hear of him for a long, long time.

Bizarre, who pays for pornography these days?

Worth noting that the crime is credit card fraud/identity theft and the rest is just seedy details.

It does seem that a particularly large part of the 'really dumb and obviously going to get caught in the end' category of embezzlement, workplace theft, and credit fraud is related to people desperately and urgently seeking wads of money to feed addictions.

Some might even say that it is bit unethical to promote these addictions, but they would be howled down for being nanny state fascist global government snowflakes, or something.

Plus, obviously it is a gross intrusion to mention this stuff in a thread that is supposed to be about how some guy is a bit of a [censored].

Some of us place a greater weight on Personal Responsibility, and much less on seeking to blame the establishment, or big business.

He is simply too dumb.

First interview I ever saw of him had him sniffing like an addict after every few words. Came across as a moron. Went to school with many similar people, and almost all of them turned out to be losers. Seems the first impression was the correct one.

This bloke has Cousins/Mainwaring written all over him.

And some of us can acknowledge that Col has made some very poor choices, caused pain to people around him deserves what punishment the law hands down, but refrain from name calling and still hope he turns his life around

As if you steal a credit card and spend it on two of the most regulated industries in the country (gambling and licensed brothels) where you not only leave a paper trail but also open the door to public ridicule of your addictions.

At least do a cash advance and pay with cash you nuffy!

I believe licensed brothels only accept payment via credit/debit cards. Someone told me.

Ah, yep, ya got me, good one mate.

Definitely, saying it is unethical to join in a predatory industry which actively promotes bad decisions by the dumb/irresponsible/gullible is the same as saying nobody should be held accountable for their own bad decisions.

Or do you really believe that the weak are mere prey?

Come to think of it, I wouldn't put that past you.

Would you ditch the clubs poker machines, based on "ethical" reasons?

Absolutely, I think it should be a major goal of the club and a motivation for getting us into a financial position where we can do it.

Frankly, there's a case for saying that the dreary unimaginative mindset of relying on poker machine revenue is part of why our financial position stagnated as the game changed and commercialised. It is the ultimate expression of taking supporters for granted.

Thought so.

I'm happy for your feelings to be put to one side so the club can make a profit, and thrive.

That should be the major goal of the club.

And here i was thinking winning games and making a fist of the finals was our goal for 2018.

Interesting that a board candidate at the Bullies is proposing they sell their pokies and a number of other clubs have board members considering ways out. Gill has even expressed his wish to see clubs get out of pokie dependency. Talk is cheap, of course.

We've got a new sponsor. This thing is going to be bigger than GetSwift. Or Shonkair , Or  Solarscam or any of those.

Details are still being worked out due to the board and Business staff trying out the product but they have the slogan ready.

Forget about the past with FENTANYL.

The demise of Colin Sylvia is a sad story and it reflects how more professional all football clubs have become in terms of maintaining a healthy environment for talented young sportspeople coming into the system. It wasn’t all that long ago that we admired the larrikin young Sylvia when he stepped into the club. We even emphasised it in the way we promoted his image as the young kid who was joining the big boys. We were angry about getting negative publicity when his early mentor, David Neitz, was found in a drunken state outside the Casino late one night. By all means, a person has to take responsibility for his or her actions but we as a club failed Colin in a way, as we did with Brock McLean and many others.  In saying that, most other clubs were no better and some got lucky with their choices. You would like to think those days were over now but, as we know, boys will still be boys and the next such story is always a morning newspaper headline away.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
