THE VETERAN

Since winning the club's best and fairest, Vince has been pushed behind the ball and played a more defensive role as the make up of the Demon midfield changes with younger players being added to the mix. The move might have been partially successful in 2016 but his output declined this year. A couple of suspensions didn't help his case either.

Played a different role this year of course, but looked well down on most aspects of his game. Statistically his worst season in almost every aspect since 2007 - though that could be because of the role.  The discipline issues were particularly disappointing.

That said, I've loved what he has brought to the MFC and I'm proud to have him as a Demon. I'm hopeful for a late resurgence, but if it doesn't come and he peters out at Casey, it won't change my view of him.

Happy birthday Bernie!

I'm okay with Bernie getting another contract because there is plenty of chaff on our list. That said, another stupid suspension and I would banish him to Casey permanently.

I don't like Bernie playing in defence and hope that he is able to push back up the field in 2018. Following on from Richmond's lead, whilst he doesn't have the leg speed, perhaps his best use could be as a defensive small forward who annoys the crap out of players such as Laird & Docherty.

If Watts does in fact leave and we don't bring in another forward I can see Bernie spending more time in the forward half. We don't have too many players that can use the ball well across half forward who have some size. I always remember him being a solid mark back in Adelaide and his first season at Melbourne. I know he doesn't have the pace but  link up player across half forward with (the good bernie) decision making would be good to fill the void.

Overall, a fairly average year for Bernie. Seems to have lost the penetration in his kicking and some general footy nouse. His suspensions did him no favours either.  As mentioned above, one more slip up might see him banished to Casey.

However, there's still 100% a spot for him in the team. Looking back on his year, Bernie's best game came in Round 8 when we beat the Crows in Adelaide. He only had 14 touches, but he completely shut down Rory Sloane. Hopefully we see more of this next year.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
