One wonders what the real reasons are for seeking a trade for Watts?

He's shown what he can do & it begs the question,ย what has [censored] of the coaches & leadership group to get to this?

I dare say only Jack & club will ever know!

ย

ย

The keep/trade Watts camps have made their points abundantly clear. But by all means, keep telling us your opinion, thrilling reading.ย

Aspects I don't believe:

ย - JW 'ramped' up his partying to unacceptable levels after his injury

ย - The FD decided to trade him after a supposed trip to Bondi

ย - JW is a 'culture killer'

Aspects I do believe:

ย - JW reacted in the negative to an unflattering exit interviewย

ย - The FD was frustrated at the reaction and decided to shop him around

ย - The coach and co-captain did themselves no favours by refusing to play a straight bat to FAQ around JW

ย - The FD has every right to move on any player for any reason acceptable to the board.

ย - JW is a very popular player at the club, but that the Leadership Group fully endorses the move of the FD

ย - The FD is moving him on because they are intent on creating the frenzied defensive pressure that just won the tigers are surprise flag

ย

The truth is usually in the banality of the wearing of everyday relationships, the dithering of those that refuse to accept hard truths, and the hamfisted approach of people who are new to critiquing players in a public sphere where only the 30 seconds you spent talking about JW is the only thing selected from your 30 minute appearance. I think all people can move on knowing they tried to do the right thing and didn't quite get that execution correct but that their red and blue heart was in the right place.

The problem is...they cut Jack's vein and found it Burgundy...

He just doesn't bleed Red & Blue in the right manner.

He's now off to a land of Stobie Poles, Pie Floaters and Southwarkย

.... Where Reds are plentiful , well nurtured and cultivated. Even Burgundy is understood there.^_^

That is absolute drivel.ย

THE CLUB treated JW as the Messiah for years and now wonder why he cruises in 3rd gear ย the CLUB did that ย

READ THIS CAREFULLY

Jack has never had the Rocket up his Backside before ย So YOU and all the other โ€œexperts on his psycheโ€have no idea how he will react....yet ย

this is the ONEย and ONLYย reason i would give him this summer preseason ย

because now he is not the chosen boy ย he has to fight for his dignity and pay check ย

He has never had to do that before ย

if he goes to Port it will be under the same conditions ย sink or swim ย

Nobody can predict the outcome of this summer until it happens

not even you BB...not even you mate

ย

In the end I will trust the coach and his side-kicks to make the call.

As a young coach you only get a couple of years to influence and changeย the list before the performance of the team directs whether you stay (can coach) or go.

As Goodwin heads into his second year at the helm he has decided Watts's character is not a good role model for the way he wants the team to perform.

I didn't want Jack to go but I applaude Goodwin for having a go. It's his time, it's his arse on the line and I hope like hell he's done the right thing.

So if Watts stayed that wouldn't be a giant kick up the posterior?

Your objectivity has slipped behind your virtue signalling.

And where in my post is there any implication that I said that?ย ย  Clearly he has been given a kick uo the posterior whatever he does.ย  Perhaps you see the poster's name and then read the post to conform to your script.

Que? , he was a number 1 draft pick, should be entering his.prime and playing high standard consistent footy , 1 top 5 finish in B&F, not picked because of training standards, dropped again ย  ย  ย try comparing him to Viney ย  ย  not sure which bit you don't get ย  ย I love him as a player and bloke but can see the rut Goodwin alludes to

I have just signed up to share with you all some information I have learned this morning

As a Dees supporter on the Gold Coast with links to the Suns, found out that the Suns and the Power are doing a deal to help Power get a pick to us for Jack Watts. All centres around the Suns Pick 21ย being up for grabsย if the Suns can get more draft points to help with an academy selectionย when they get to theirย Pick 24. And Power with Pick 31 and 34 help them getย an extra 260 points.

As it stands, this deal is on the table and will be close to signed off tomorrow or Tuesday:

Melbourne
GAIN - Pick 21
LOSE - Watts and Pick 66

Port Adelaide
GAIN - Watts and Pick 66
LOSE - Pick 31 and 34

Gold Coast Suns
GAIN - Pick 31 and 34
LOSE - Pick 21

This deal is extremely fair i think and very shrewd as everyone wins here based on these principles

- GCS want draft points, and 31 and 34 is more valuable than 21
- Dees get a very high 2nd round pick (21) for Watts. Send pick 66 to Power which they wont use anyway as they have just 3 list spots left and will take 21, 29 and 36 to the draft after trading 47 to Freo for Balic
- After giving up 31 and 34, Port want a later pick back so they can have enough decentย picks to make their 3 compulsory draft selections. These will be Pick 49, 62 and our 66. With Watts, Rockliff and Motlop and still these 3 picks, a great trade period for the Power.

I know people may or may not believe me, but I have got this info via the Suns and sharing it on this forum wont affect the deal going through in the next 24 - 48 hours as no other clubs are in the discussion for Watts anymore..

Only sticking point will be if Suns want to keep 21 and put 24 into this deal instead and hope their academy player can get done with theirย Pick 26 that they have as well.ย It is the final piece of the puzzle in discussion apparently but it will be 21 or 24 for Watts.

What do we think Dees supporters??

*** Personally, pick 21 or 24 is fair for Jack.ย We paid 23 for Vince, 31 for Hibberd and 30 for Melksham who are all the equal or better players than Watts and were similar ages when traded.ย

Can the many actually handle the truth ?

Look forward to a book about this era of the club. It might join other illustriou tomes. In the meantime I'll settle for some eminently successful footy.

We can only hope that Nathan Jones turns out to be a natural writer with a good memory, or that he finds a really effective biographer/ghost writer to collaborate with.

He is on target, even if our season by season performance improves from here, to play in the most losses of any player in AFL/VFL history. Combine that with a late career premiership, half a dozen coaches (counting interim coaches), a string of club crises, and major change for the AFL in general, you've got a pretty good start for a book.

ย

In fact, there is even a remarkable pattern for the great No. 2 Captains of our club.

Nathan Jones. 239 games, 67 wins, 169 losses, 3 draws.

Robert Flowerย ย  272 games,ย  88 wins, 184 losses, 0 draws,

21 wins and 15 losses to go. There's a real chance that Jones could EXACTLY hit the line that Flower finished on. I'd be hoping he pushes on a couple more years after that, though.

We are not at that stage yet. We may be there by next week.ย

at no stage should we just give him away and continue to pay a wage.ย

That is pure insanity in my view...

Bloke has 2 years left on a good contract. Apparently loves the place, loves his team mates. You don't think his preferred option is to stay at MFC ?

It's pretty obvious that that particular "option" has been made so unpalatable that he's had to seek others

Further to this, his manager Connors has a track record and a public preference for keeping players at their clubs. If he is telling Watts he is best to look elsewhere then remaining at MFC is not a realistic option

21 would work for me. Don't doubt that GC will also push for Geelong's Motlop compensation to form part of the Ablett deal, so there may be a pragmatic decision to not battle over 21 or 24.

Deal makes a lotย of sense, hope this is how it all plays out (would prefer Jack stayed, but looks like that ship has sailed).

Thanks for sharing GCD.

Yes. I understand all that

But Jack wonโ€™t survive Port Adelaide

so in this instant i think Connors is wrong.ย

But only time will tell

If i am wrong and Jack thrives Playing at Port i shall be filthy on 2 levels, that we failed to light and stoke a fire ? that should be well alight by now...
