Is that what someone has told you or what you think will happen?  News today that we're one of the clubs circling Zac Clarke so it would make sense we're after a back up ruck.

Told me source cannot be named but from another club

Thanks Spook,

Many on here won't like it, but I don't think it's the worst deal in the world particularly as I think all our late picks will be earmarked for rookie upgrades anyway.

.Since that time, Watts has had to decide whether he wants to be great. At the MFC. Or elsewhere.

Watts has had opportunities to be great wel before this. see roos' speech at last years b&f. Watts came back and was dropped for the pre season. I can't fathom what people don't get about this.

Sometimes u need to make tough decisions! No doubt it's hard to get your head around him playing at another club , but sometimes you just need to move players on and the club needs to move on from the past

Whether accidentally or deliberately I think you've hit at least one of the principal nails on the head here Junior.  Will Jack Watts ever be great?

I think if you look at the truly great players they help shape and drive the culture of the clubs that they are in.  There are some notable exceptions, but most of them do.

For me, Jack won't be 'great' and I'm not afraid to trade him on that basis.

I guess Jack thought he was better  valued  other clubs .Only at the Dees is he completely over rated and by some overrated to the point of delusion

After 9 years Jack and the supporters need  something to happen?

Jack can and does live up to his perceieved potential ( jury out)

Or the long suffering supporters see him off playing in different colours

It appears to me to be pretty black and white

Will end up at Port

Out Watts and a late pick

in pick 30 and a ruckman

A ruckman as well?

Surely not Lobbe. Frampton might be ok, but is an SA boy.

Dougal Howard is from Murray area, would be more of a fwd/ruck and came in late season for Port (including their final).

I have had mail today from a reliable source on the situation..

Watts was initially told some hard truths in his exit meeting, which he did not agree with. The club (which we know) asked him to explore his options if he was not willing to change his habits. Watts was filthy initially but has not nominated a club of choice because he’s not sure he wants to go.

The club is now believing he is a 60/40 chance to stay. If he does go, it won’t be for nothing.

So what you're saying is:

- The club isn't happy with the standards Jack has set

- The club wants good compensation in a trade and won't trade him unless they get it

- Staying is a possibility and Jack knows the score if he does

It almost sounds exactly what Josh "liar liar pants on fire" Mahoney said to the media this week. Who would have thought?

Some critics of Watts, who play down his 6th after round 14 in the bluey, also conveniently overlook the fact that he played much of the time in the ruck.  And he ain't no ruckman.  For him to be 6th after round 14 is the equivalent to anyone outside a dedicated ruckman being in the top 2 or 3 to that point, were he played in his more suited non-rucking roles prior to the injury.

There's some serious gilding of the lilly going on when it comes to his performance up to the injury both on here and within the FD it would seem.

He actually played well in the ruck, not so much in actual ruck work but in his follow up. He became another mid and that would have earned him votes and credit from the coaches. It did not hinder his votes playing in the ruck it helped him.

I don't get this new argument that if you are happy to move a player on you are not entitled to seek a fair price. More crap from Player Managers.

Exactly. Mahoney spelt it out in SEN last week

everything else (the last 50 pages) is mere speculation and hot air.

This thread is quite amazing. It really is...!

We need more "mute points" SWYL.

Am I the only one that hopes Viney smashes him the first time he goes near the footy playing for another team?

I genuinely don't get what the trade-Watts crew here don't understand about the other perspective on this, which is hardly a controversial point of view.

Much of it has to do with value - many here (and most journalists I have read recently) think Watts' trade value is worth less than his value to the MFC going forward. Simple.

This is not a remotely intellectual or conceptually challenging issue. It baffles me that some here think they are legitimate geniuses for seeing what others, in their view, fail to see.

Put simply - we get it. We just don't necessarily agree.

Brisbane and Gold Coast have academy picks which will both go around the pick 10-13 mark.

Pick 27 = 703 points

Pick 29 = 653 points

Total = 1356 points.

Based purely on those two picks combined, we would equal between pick 10 and 11.

Pick 11= 1329 points

Just have to make it worth the other teams time. Probably throw in a later pick for free.

Edit: also need to consider the discount clubs receive for academy picks.

Also.... Brisbane currently have pick 12

This points stuff does my head in....

Sorry, this has been repeated over and over again. During the Bluey thread someone suggested they thought they saw him siting sixth. At the time, I thought I saw the leaderboard showing him on the third line making him 11th (maybe). Does anyone have any concrete evidence of this 6th after round 14 claim or is this another example of a mistake or untruth being repeated so many time that posters start to accept it as given?

I thought I saw the same GV, around 11th or 12th, hence my pleasant surprise when it was suggested he was 6th after 14 rounds.

I couldn't make out the leaderboard properly through the live stream.

I couldn't find a vote count anywhere after 14 rounds so I emailed the club if it was possible to attain one and all I received was a thanks and my feedback will be passed  onto the marketing and events department.

Well I guess there's no room in here for a light-hearted comment or two

Lighten up guys ... its only Jack Watts ...

Wells confirmed on SEN this morning that they (Geelong) can afford Watts from a salary cap point of view but won't give Melbourne the type of pick they want, i.e. pick 20.

He also intimated they wouldn't give up their third, although I doubt Melbourne would take that anyway.

He left some wriggle room dependent upon any compensation pick they may get for Motlop should he leave.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
