Anyone listen to Roos on MMM around midday? He said that Watts was given no indication in the exit interview that he was going to be traded. Apparently the exit interview went ok (not great) but he certainly didn't think it was leading to a trade. If true, then that's poor transparency from Goodwin on that front.

So what is to be gained by telling Watts 4 weeks before the AFL season ended that he's up for trade?

At this stage, there were no guarantees that Lever is coming to us. And what if Hogan had of requested a trade home? In the event of these occurances, we probably keep Watts.

Once again Roos trying to stir the pot, and make himself look good.

I don't think MFC has handled this poorly at all.  It's a challenging situation.   The message in the media is for MFC members to understand the reasons why Jack is being traded and judging by the response here there is a great demand for reasons from Jack's many fans - and many remain unsatified.  The "lack of professional preparation" reason is not a character assassination and it's one that some other clubs probably believe they can turn around.  AFAIK there has not been a word about "the contest".

Clubs understand the capabilities and shortcomings of all players on AFL lists and don't take any notice of what is said in the media when forming their list management strategy.  It's clear that MFC wants to trade Jack and it's no use pretending otherwise.  He has the opportunity to seek out his preferred destination.  MFC will execute a trade to get that done and it's fair enough too, for the loyal service Jack has given.  Absolute maximum value may not be squeezed out but I'm confident a reasonable value will be negotiated.  Almost all clubs these days want to maintain a reputation as reasonable traders - they know the boot will be on the other foot soon enough.

It IS sad that Jack is leaving but we're in the business of fearless football.

I read it on the Rumors Page and then directly asked to confirm or otherwise.

Is this with the same source you acknowledged last year was no longer at the club?

He is still a Melbourne player at this stage.

I repeat

Still a Melbourne player.

They do tell players they may be involved in trade discussions. That is part of the exit interviews. I know that first hand. They will discuss what may occur over trade week, so that the players know where they stand. It's a good thing.

Roos' motives are his own, but I would be amazed if they didn't tell Jack in the exit interview that this was going to happen.

Roos is all about Roos' legacy.  I'm very grateful for the side-effect benefits that has had on our club.

He has been completely devalued by the club

If i was  the other club i would offer the absolute minimum

So naive. The aim of the trade period isn't to rip every other club off like dogs fighting for a bone. Clubs are constantly are working with each other and need to be harmonious in order to get trades done. If you keep low balling everyone then you develop into a club that no-one wants to work with. Surely you could've figured this out yourself. It's like technically, we could offer Adelaide nothing for Jake Lever and pick him up in the pre-season draft but that's not how trading works guys.

They tell players collectively to be prepared for their name to be thrown up in trade discussions. But to tell an individual player is suicidal. Like I said, other deals could fall through, and the player who was told could crack the sh#ts, and say I want out.

I was responding to his comment of yours

" More telling was the chorus of supporters cheers for Jack. Blinded by his 'great guy' status over his years of mediocrity."

I was suggesting that rather than the supporters being blinded by his "great guy" status they were recognizing other areas of contribution which I've detailed.  I'm not debating Watt's trade situation but on your inability to see why supporters might have reacted the way they did and how little insight to that you've got and how inappropriate your criticism of them is.

VP, I don't want to get into a slanging match with you mainly because I consider you to be one of the better contributors on this forum.

You can either accept or reject what I've said.

I will however add one more thing. Did you not get the feeling that the love the supporters gave Watts was similarly shared by the playing group? Do you at all consider just how that must be influencing them and moulding their behaviours around the club?

This club has celebrated mediocrity for a long time now and at last Goodwin is putting a full stop to it before it begins to infect our next batch of potential stars.

What happened to all the chat about Menzel maybe being traded, was that untrue?

If not, I'd be entirely content for a straight swap!
