I'd consider Aaron hall who I think In a better side with some real development coaches could be a seriously good outside mid.

Hed probably cost us our second rounder which is happily part with to land him.

We clearly lack a key back, and speed and kicking skills through the middle

You serious? Hall would cost more than a 2nd round pick.

Pick 10 didn't put in a dog of a performance on Saturday. As such he has automatically become my favourite player.

Give him a year.

Gees we have such unrealistic expectations of our players...

Darcy Fogarty.

Not sure this is the type of player we're after but he looks a likely prospect.  Cal Twomey has him at number 7 in his August form guide and Knightmare has him at number 10. Seems more a utility type than the outside most are wanting.

From what I gather the top 20 or so picks looks pretty good this year. Nearly all mids. I'm pretty sure we can nap a nice one at 10 if we keep it. Even at pick 26ish we'll have a good one.

I like the sound of Patty Dow. A dAnger type supposidly.

What's it gonna be? Use it on a classy, young outside mid or trade for extra leverage?

Who are the likely kids available at 10?

Is Gus' bro in the mix?

Trade it together with a player, for Pick 1, or Pick 2 or Pick 3.  And take a gun mid with that Pick.

He's a terrible kick though. Constantly bites off more than he can chew or just generally kicks it poorly.

If he was a better decision maker and kick, he'd be a star.

McGrath is unfortunately exactly the type of player we need. Even that blonde muppet Parish would compliment Oliver, Viney et al nicely.

The bloody drug cheats are building a brilliant midfield to compliment Daniher, who I still think will be one of the great forwards in the game. He's Franklin-like and will only get better.

Don't want Lever if it is on 900k as has been reported. Would prefer to take pick 10 to the draft.

Lochie O'brien would be my pick at 10 despite his reportedly disappointing season. Is a good kick of the football and moves nicely.

Other players that I'd imagine would be in the discussion would be Hunter Clark (very clean hands and a nice mover, but an inconsistent kick) and Jaidyn Stephenson (I can't make my mind up about him but has had some big games).

It must be said, Taylor's record with pick 9 isn't the greatest, so in that regard I wouldn't be that unhappy to trade the pick.

If that's the caliber of player available at pick 10 this year, I'd much rather trade it.

O'Brien has a good penetrating kick and looks capable overhead, but nothing exceptional.

Clarke is a good honest meat& potatoes type with an ordinary kick.

Stephenson looks like a Cale Morton & I'd be hesitant using a 3rd rounder on him.

Not sure I'm a fan of the pick 9 comment either. Salem is great value for pick 9 & Weideman also looks like being a very capable forward longterm. There's always a few out of the box that could have been better selections in retrospect, but I think Taylor has done his job and not wasted the selections like in the past.

Has the odd blinder where he hits targets for most of the match & the ball bounces his way, but then goes back to being a butcher. Not the answer.

Doesn't fit needs. Hard at it, love his attack, but could see him becoming a turnover merchant at AFL level, at least for a time (when we really need someone who will contribute, based on the development of our list profile).

Those stiff arms won't come off as easily at the next level, nor will the blind turns and the very suspect kicking.

He's never had great coaching which makes me wonder if Macca goody and co might be able to get him to play at his best a lot more consistently

I'm sure there are many more, those are just they type that I would be interested in as they can actually run unlike most of our team.

How is a player in his 4th season who still can't hold his spot in the team and doesn't have a position at AFL level great value?

What position do you see Salem playing his career?

He is not a disaster selection but I would still rate it below what I would expect with pick 9.

Weideman will have all sorts of defenders on this board until next season so I won't bother debating but he is 1 dimensional.

From those highlights (yes, i know they are only highlights) Lochie O'Brien looks to have potential as a smooth moving outside mid. Good vision to create the play, a very handy left boot and not skinny. Reasonably good overhead mark for his height. Didn't see a right foot and only one tackle though

Salem will be a versatile small, able to play a rebounding defender role, a wing or a high half forward - most of these already can do competently.

He does hold his spot in the 22, only being dropped momentarily due to indifferent form after being rushed back from injury.

You also may be conveniently forgetting the time he has lost to development due to unlucky thyroid issues and injuries.

I'd probably question your ability to assess  a player's role, scope and his place in the pecking order, based on your previous post.

Either way, his penetrating disposal is not easily replaced, and his hardness underrated.

Weideman may not be as versatile as Curnow, but he will become a very capable forward.

Reminds me a bit of Stinger actually (sacrilege, I know)

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
