Taberner is rubbish, no way we should go for him when we have Weidemann in the VFL. It speaks volumes to a forwards abilities when they're unable to lock a spot down in the current Freo set up.

Thank you for this. I don't think people her realise the blood, sweat and tears that goes into not only making it into an AFL list, but what it takes to stay there.

I agree with you in some respects. That being said:

These guys are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars at the end of the day to kick a footy. Thats a HELL of a lot more money than the vast majority of us make slaving 9-5, 5 days a week. Many of these guys are living their dream and can set themselves up for the rest of their lives if they have the appititude.

Some of them are under performing and should be under scruitiny. Again, most of us would have some sort of perfromance reviews at work. Guess what happens when we dont do our jobs? We are disciplined in one way or another or worst case, get canned.

In that sense, its no different. In other ways, its totally different. They are in the public space and thats never going to change. In fact its probably going to get more and more invasive with Victoria's appetite for footy in the digital age.

For me, I think this point is irrelevant, they don't ask for the money at the particular rate of knots., Its part of revenue sharing in a sport which is valued as entertainment , and unfortunately sport is about genetic giftedness first...then its about application. Unlike other industries where it is cognitive (which some would argue is still genetic giftedness as well as environmental circumstances).

Well, they are under scrutiny,..permanently no one goes out there to not play well - or as common parlance has it - without desire, gumption, hunger... They're under scrutiny from each other, supporters, family, coaches and themselves daily/weekly...take it from me, the stressors due to the scrutiny are far more than mere mortals who work in non visible non entertainment industries. Shame, embarrassment, frustration, anxiety all in a public space...its a hard hard place to exist, its isolating at times...and the coin doesn't make it any easier, in of itself.($ doesn't buy happiness etc etc)

His official title is something like "Game Analyst & Education Co-ordinator", which is a bit meaningless. He's actually really highly regarded for his strategic nous and his ability to work out an opponent's weakness and also what we need to tweak in the course of a game to be more effective. I know for sure the Dogs didn't want to see him go. My Bulldog mates are (both) pretty sure that the period early in the season when we had those good games against top teams with all our injuries had CJ's influence written all over it. So it's interesting to hear a number of times in the media during the course of this year about how highly regarded he is within the industry.

Which to me begs the question of what happened in the latter part of the season when our game strategy & planning seemed to be all over the place, except perhaps for the Saints & Port games. Which is why I'm anxious at the prospect of CJ being poached.

Who would we all prefer? A fully fit 25-30 goal a year Kent or Hannan? Hannan basically took Kent's spot.

Hannan hasn't had nearly the opportunity Kent has and took his spot. Another pre season and improved tank and I'd have hannan comfortably ahead of Kent.

Some strategies certainly failed to consider locations and weather.

Certainly intriguing as to value for mine. Happy to be educated.

Its an odd thing from my cheap seats. You get someone to give you an 'edge' but we appeared to have NONE. Quite the reverse at times.  Now this could also mean without him we would have been worse. ( god forbid )

I think they are on par for foot speed. Hannan far better in the air, Kent some more strength but doesn't really use it. Both are unreliable set shots for goal (Hannan St.Kilda goals aside) but Hannan seems better on the snap than Kent.

I suspect the harder to spot difference where Hannan has it over Kent is adherence to instructions/attitude.

Kent wouldn't be able to do what Hannan did against saints 3 weeks ago and basically win us the game in the last qtr with 2 quality goals in 3 minutes from strong marks.

They've just been through an EBA threatening to sit on the grass, without a large increase in revenue. They were not asking, they were DEMANDING.

Almost the entire team went out without the required desire in the final game. A fully switched on effort would have seen us playing next weekend. Our mob are the League leaders in picking and choosing effort levels.

His body holding up is the key. I am a fan of Kent but with a few poor efforts earlier in the year, I started wondering what's happened to this bloke.

I would prefer Hannan at this stage.

i want players who want to try every time they run out onto the field, kent does not strike me as that and even hannan goes missing too often. These guys are paid a heck of a lot of money to play football, they dont realise how fragile that future is, if they dont put in they will  lose their career and possibly millions of $'s for a half decent footballer with a 10 year career.
