Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Be very interested to know why MFC were last for conversions inside 50? Does that mean we couldn't kick straight? Or in relation to number of times we went inside 50 we either lost possession, it went out of bounce or were penalized?

Players bombing the ball in too often, only to have it cleared out right away by the opposition.

Do you mean to say that some people have calmed down?

Five days after the biggest calamity since 87 prelim and people have managed to calmed down?

There's a difference between disappointed, frustrated and being ropable. Im pretty calm. I dont however accept lightly that we lostvand chucked a season down the gurgler.

Im just as impressed ( or not ) with the Goodwin vanishing act. Hope hes busy busy busy working on a better set of game plans and structures as well as too busy co-conspiring to lure better players to Melbourne.

I hope at least thats why hes been a no show. Must be this

But after all these years the club has successfully lowered the bar to expectations. Ive things planned for September. Always had, it's MELBOURNE ;)

But by all means rage away.

Its on deaf ears you do understand ?

Off to a 3 week business trip tomorrow OS. For the past few months been wondering whether I should have put if off given our best chance to make finals for over a decade though this is the ideal time for me to go. Then I rationalised to myself that maybe I would be back with us deep into the finals. Turned out I could not have made a wiser decision.

The truly disappointing thing is....in our guts....we just know.

Interesting little anecdote from the gym last night.

Being in Japan, I can usually escape the reminders of yet another Melbourne related embarrassment.

This was disproven when the middle aged lady who I talk with at the gym came up to me and said  'I heard your team got beaten and missed the finals.'

To be fair, her son did go to private school in Caulfield and became a Demon there. I wasn't aware that she would know about our pantsing however.

While not  even being remotely as close to being as central player in the game as Jimma was in '87, I got a slight sense of how he must have felt when that bloke recognized him in Paris.

This.

We lack composure which is largely in part because we have a game style that involves manic running and handballing.  The problem is this style can't be sustained for four quarters, let alone a whole season. On top of this, as you say if the opposition put the slightest bit of pressure on us then we don't have the structure to adapt and withstand it.

The other realted problem is our poor kicking. Most of our poor kickers have - not coincedentally - terrible techniques. Think hunt, t mac and tyson.

Like all sports poor technique gets exposed under pressure. Pressure applied by the opposition (or in golf the difficulty of the course and/or conditions) and/or the pressure of crunch matches or momwnts within a match (eg a kick to win agame). Ours was exposed by both on saturday.

One of the best set shots in the league, in fact.

The problem is his decision making. When he's kicking for goal, his mind doesn't have to bend over backwards in order to work out where exactly to kick it.

Shore up the back line, play McDonald as a forward who goes back when required.

Exactamundo !! Precisely why in future he should only play a fwd relieving ruck role.

That team had a red hot crack week in week out. They didn't choose when to turn up

PsD

Im sure they turn up... They're there. Do they turn up ? ?? well.

Sometimes they 'turn it up'

Sometimes they're there but only seem just so.

They're human, they have 'moments'

Many of our moments haven't been all too meritorious

Not me. I am livid and likely to remain so.

Garry Lyon in his book says that 1990 season was the one they really rued. Even comp, no standout as evidenced by the fact a fairly ordinary Collingwood side won the flag.

Grand Finals are hard to get to and there is no saying we would have made it but 2017 looks like a similar even year and will go down as a massive missed opportunity - and the players and coaching staff have no [censored] idea what level of pressure they needed to bring to games in the second half of the season.

Like last years capitulation against Carlton and Geelong, the coaches and on field leaders have failed yet seem powerless to do anything about it. Until it is recgnised and acknowledged the same crap performances will repeat themselves.

No way Clarkson or Sheedy would allow such garbage to happen.

Now that Adelaide and Richmond are in the GF I am even more livid about our pathetic capitulation in the final round. we can beat both of those teams. We will rue this unbelievable lost opportunity.

boohoo.

You've got to be in it to win it, and both the Crows and Tigers had the fortitude to make the finals. We didn't.

We have nothing to rue, we were not worthy, simple as that.

I couldn't agree more - it really annoys me all the stuff you read on here about Adelaide tanking , bad luck , we should done this or that. The indisputable fact is that the MFC is still not ready to seriously challenge - they are their own worst enemy by getting complacent , talking themselves up and then failing dismally.

They and only they are responsible for not being ready - let us all hope that there are some huge changes in mindset and perhaps personnel over the break that sees the team take another step forward next year - this is now a very very even and tough competition. If we start thinking it's just going to happen then we are in very big trouble and could easily slip back down to a place that we know all too well.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
