Trade rumours

Agree with the 650k stipulation but I'd add we'd need to offload Tyson as he would become 1 too many. I think Maynard will take his spot next year anyway, so if we can get some value out of him I'd take it. Happy to keep him otherwise, either way.

Maynard is a different player to Tyson, for mine. We need all the decent midfield depth we can get. If Tyson becomes a depth player, we'll be heading in a really terrific direction.

Am told that Rockliff is not the sort of guy you want at the club.

And what a joy that is to observe DJ!

Glad we don't own that crown anymore.

Imagine how sour that lot will be next year when they cant even beat us any more..........

I will be trolling their forums every time we play them.

Was this pre-2017, because I'd heard similar things, but didn't seem to be too toxic to a young Brisbane outfit this year.

Would this work?

Adelaide - Pay: Lever, Cameron. Receive: Melbourne's 1st Rnd '17 & '18, GCS 2nd Rnd.

Melbourne - Pay: 1st Rnd '17 & '18, Weideman. Receive: Lever, Lynch.

Collingwood - Pay: P6. Receive: Weideman.

Gold Coast - Pay: Lynch, 2nd Rnd. Receive: Cameron, P6.

So we give up three first round picks for two KPPs?  A bit steep I think.

Lucas Cook. Google him

I know who you mean. Lucas.

Just that the Weide is nothing like Lucas.

The comparison is just ridiculous.

Depends how much we'd be paying Rockliff. He's in the top 5 clearance players in the league. Add him to Oliver and Viney and that's the best midfield group in the league. He can also play a proper forward role, rather than merely being a stop gap solution like Tyson is when forward.

If we could get Rockliff for $650k, I'd do it. But I don't think we could or will.

When Jones is cooked from playing on-ball, & we are left with Oli, Viney & maybe Maynard in under? we will be wishing we had Rocky as well.

If we can free up a little something with Jacky baby, I'd like to spend that on Rocky.

If we ended up with Lever, Gaff & Rocky at the end of 2017, I reckon we'd be doing very well out of this season.

Maynard won't hit his straps if he does for another couple of years. He may well start getting games next year, but won't be a topliner inside mid next year. He'll be a novice.
IF Jones's legs go off early, then we would need the mature inside player that Rocky is now.

We saw what happened when Jones was injured this mid year with his Quad.  That, and other things, helped to conspire to derail our momentum & season fairly abruptly.

Including Watts slow recovery.

And the mistake of not keeping Pedo in the team rucking, around the time of Gawn coming back.

We weren't ready for a couple of reasons and one of them is inexperience.

Well Oli, Viney & Maynard are all inexperienced immature players.

Lose Jones, Vince & Lewis, and we are behind that 8 ball again. Rocky could be a bridge between they're ages.

I suspect Charlie Cameron's trade value just went up. A few weeks ago I'd have guessed the lions could get him for an early second round pick. Now I think he's definitely worth between 10-15

Wouldn't trade him for 9 first round picks...

@Wiseblood

I agree - he's clearly worth far more than that.

I'm genuinely sick of seeing the MFC being ripped off in these trades.

22 first rounders. Nothing less.

Mark Stevens on Channel 7 post game said that Gary Ablett will be traded to Geelong as soon as trade week opens, and the deal has already been agreed on.

Yawn. An entire year of Ablett trade talk and Nathan Buckley coaching on every footy show on a weekly basis, the reason why i've ceased watching all of them halfway through the year except 'on the couch'

Edited by Deeprived Childhood

Gold Coast are weak if they send ablett to geelong I would make the sook play out his contract or put him into retirement

I was asking about Lucas not comparing him to the Weid. That was 'Bub.

Anyway....

How do you know it was a whole year if you stopped watching them halfway?

Probably Lang, Motlop or Menzel, though Motlop has had a good finals series. Wonder if the Cats will have a rethink on him.

On what I saw of Lang last night I wouldn't be interested, though again a lot of Cats were terrible, none more so than the big bloke at FF.

100% Agree

Worst kept secret ever - let's hope GC don't just let him go, otherwise it's making a mockery of the "System'"

The purpose of the image was to highlight things are not always as portrayed.

Cook , arguably one of the most curious of all draftings looked like X...played like Y.

Weed , lauded as this that and the other must surely be one of our most speculative selections ever all based on much extrapolation of his much younger potential.

Both round 1 selections.

The comparison i use is they are both likely to be categorised as poor returns when looked back upon.

Its my view and i own it, that his selection was foolhardy and ill concieved.

We stuffed up with Cook and i see little in Weed to get excited about.

Each to their own

If they can get something for him, and free up money, then I reckon they win. He's cooked. He's hurt more than he is fit, and has maybe 2018 and a bit of 2019 left in him.

I love Ablett to Geelong, as it means another year trying to milk success out of an aging list while not developing their next generation. The cliff when it comes (2019 be my guess) will be brutal. :)

I have heard that Lucas had mental health issues also which may have contributed to him not reaching his full potential. Sad if true and I hope he's doing OK. Too young for having to deal with that crap.

Motlop played his 3 best games this year at the MCG. If you could get him consistent in work ethic he is exactly the type of line breaker we need. I would suggest he will have been discussed by our list management but I wonder how seriously.

Played well last night, but noticed he pulled out of two contests and that is something Goodwin doesn't like.

Wonder if he is on our radar. He is apparently on good money and that could be a problem.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
