Obviously we all rate Jetta, but the AA selectors look for attack over defence so they are more likely to give Hibberd the nod and leave Jetta on the bench.

I don't see Garlett getting in.  He's been inconsistent this season and they like to fill the small forward spots with spare midfielders which will count heavily against him.  Look for Dangerfield to be named as a forward pocket this year.

Oliver probably has a solid claim based on his numbers.  I'm one of the doubters who think he needs to get better balance between his handballs and kicks and I think that may count against him.

Imo Oliver is more likely to make 22 than Hibberd. His stats are...unprecedented.

Oliver to make the side

Hibberd also to make it I think in front of players like Howe

Jetta maybe in the squad, but he will always be our little gem internally

Garlett has fallen away a bit and will miss the squad

Would be a right deeesgrace! Clarry Choo Choo to finish in top 10 in Brownlow maybe even top 5 and fails to make the AA Team.?? Yep that'd be right!!

If i recall correctly. Priddis didn't make AA when he won the brownlow in 2014

A timely opportunity to take our minds from yesterday.  Our Daisy has come up with her AA team suggestions.  As always, her articles are very well presented and thought through.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/daisy-pearce-picks-the-2017-allaustralian-afl-team-20170826-gy4s59.html

Her selection criteria:  "Despite the fact the All-Australian team doesn't actually play, I've picked my team based on the premise that if it did, it would need to be equipped for the game's current trends".

So often the AA team is nominated to include players who have had a good year even if there isn't a position for them in the side.  It is terrific that Daisy has bucked this trend and chosen a team that would actually play.

Her noteworthy omission:  Joel Selwood!  Gutsy call!  I happen to agree, if we are going to choose the best playing team rather than 'worthy' inclusions.

The only Demon is Hibberd...unless we include a possible Demon-to-be, Jake Lever.:)

Would have liked to see Jetta there for Docherty or Howe.  Of course, would have loved Clarrie to be there but he needs to kick more goals before he displaces the likes of Kelly, Dangerfield, Martin, Bontempelli, Sloane etc etc.  His day will come.

Daisy is a very astute commentator and generally I think she has it right.

Yep I think she has just about nailed it, though 3 talls in the forward line does not reflect modern trend (particularly pressure), so Daniher should be shifted to the bench, where someone like Fantasia would probably find a spot in the pocket at the expense of Sloane!

Though for me I would go with Dangerfield or Martin in the pocket (they would be very quickly rotated into the midfield as needed) and start with Kennedy or Sloane in the middle. Daniher from the bench also provides ruck relief. The one potential weakness in both lineups would be an injury to a tall back, so in reflection I would drop Kennedy, shift Daniher to Full Forward and bring in someone like McGovern.  Noting Ryder can also play forward.

AFL AA Squad:  http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-08-28/2017-all-australian-squad-revealed

Demons:  Hibberd, Garlett, Jetta.  Well done guys!

Clarrie is leading the 'Who was the unluckiest player to miss the 40-man AA squad?'  I mentioned in the post above that he needs to kick more goals to displace some of the elite midfieldersNonetheless, a stunning year by a19 year old.

These players have been our only consistent players all year who have put in every game and usually for all four quarters.  (Some may disagree with Garlett but remember he was out injured and had family matters to deal with, so its worth cutting him some slack).

Our leaders missing this year, in more ways than one...

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
