"...the Demons are keen to keep him for another season as they understand his value..." :)

Well done and hope he has an injury free run next year.

The fact it's only a one year deal is telling. Big year for Aaron.

If he gets through the year fit I think he'll have no issues getting at least another year.

Tigers have based a game plan on pressure forwards who don't do much else. GWS are scrambling to find guys who can do it.

If he's fit and healthy I think he can be an important player in the side or at least a fringe player who keeps everyone honest.

Have a soft spot for AVB - don't think he's had a clear run at it yet, but has the capability to be a solid contributor.

I agree with the above posters, it's 2018 or bust.

I don't see it as telling at all... considering his run with injuries and lack of game time, and considering he is out of contract, it was probably the only way the club could go... he wasn't delisted and he has no real currency in a trade situation, so a one year re-signing is the best outcome for all.

Not sure it is the best for AV hardtack. He was probably looking for longer but with his injury record and a foot one at that we were probably never going to give more. Hope this is not Trengove all over again. We will know by the end January I reckon.

He'll be ready for day one of pre-season. If he is going to achieve his goal of rotating through the midfield he is going to need a bit of luck with injury and to work harder than he ever has before.

Would guess that it might be a 1 year deal with a trigger for longer - play 15+ senior games and get a second year sort of thing. Which I think is fair given he was best 25 at the start of the season, prior to the injury and would have played a significant role this year. If he's fit and wants to play midfield then he'll have to really tear apart pre-season, which Maynard will be trying to do similar and hopefully really put pressure on all the other mids to lift their games - can only be a good thing.

Would have been surprised if he was offered more than one year.

(arguing semantics - its not really the best for AVB but I think it is the best he could have hoped for)

I don't disagree with you OD.  But given the circumstances, I suppose there was always the chance he could have been delisted or feelers put out for trade possibilities (as unlikely as they might be), so I think he probably realises and appreciates that he has to earn his place back in the side and is coming from a long way back, and that the club is giving him that chance.

Wants out. Won't be surprised if a deal is struck during trade week and he's sent to a side that'll let him cement a spot in their midfield

You should lose your accreditation to post "intel" on here.

What Intel just fake news, as soon as he said he was not happy with his role, u would know its made up.

1 has not been on the park, so has  not had a role

2 he would just be happy to get a game, and any team.

will be a handy addition next year. another midfield rotation and a big bodied midfielder with some Vitamin c in him. glad we kept him.

I like him as a player by the way

Yeah, not a AVB fan, but it's probably the right call to give him one more year. He's obviously seen as a better option than an unknown low draft pick and that's probably fair. Another sensible list management decision.

The thing I like about VDB is he's really hard to tackle which is a great attribute to have at this level. He is also an excellent and strong over head mark inside 50. Plus he once turned a game on its head with 3 goals in a qtr when we were on track for a disastrous home loss to GC.

Having said that, I'm far from convinced he'll make it.

has never been dropped for form, simply missed games with injury, i believe?

he strikes me as the sort of player the coaches must just love because of his worth ethic

the potential is there to form a wicked partnership with petracca as a mid who moves forward / forward who moves into the mid

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
