Just heard on the Footy show.. omitted!

I think they're just regurgitating rumors off the radio as fact. Official team released this evening has him listed in the side while others were omitted.

He's officially in the team. Hopefully he has a good game as we need him to stand up with Hogan out.

Watts is in our best 22 but he needs to pull his finger out quick smart.

Maybe the coaches can use a cow prodder to spark him into action!

Mitch Cleary reckons he's omitted for this week. If Dees lose and Weid plays a poor game, I reckon Goody will cop some flack for this decision. But on the other hand if we win and Weid plays well, I'll salute the decision.

No inside knowledge, but I'll be very surprised if he isn't dropped from that exetended bench. It seems Goodwin is taking a stand by omitting Salem in particular.

I think Watts will suffer the same fate, probably just dodging the Thursday night media storm, and will slip it in tomorrow night when final teams are announced, and the media are more focused on the actual footy.

It's the right decision, win lose or draw in my book.

In football, which is such an outcome focused industry, I can't see how you can assess how good a decision is until the result unfolds.

One of Watts' better qualities is/has the ability to coverva LOT of ground quickly...when fit.

He's obviously carrying something ( or two ) . He needs a spell, and to rehab his injuries.

If my suspicions are founded then im far from impressed with the FDs thinking.

Players tend to play on though with a bulging disc because it's common and is often passed off as back pain. Generally the best way to counter back pain is to strengthen lower and upper core strength and keep moving, and Watts is already well established there (as all basketballers tend to be which Watts was one). You can play through it depending on the location and I assume the FD thinking is that if it's not restricting movement pre game then it shouldn't hurt effectiveness in game, especially once the body warms up and the adrenaline is blanketing any pain. Anyone that has experienced back pain would know that the best medicine is full body movement as opposed to "resting" because then your body just tightens up and the pain is amplified. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a disc and they gave the all clear because you'll get a few players throughout a year that play through it in combination with therapy. In regards to this week it may be a case of waiting again until pre game to determine the severity of it. He seemed slow on the weekend, no so much restricted by movement. He also had stints in the ruck and worked his way into the game so I'm not convinced any injury he may have is dragging him down. He could have just been well held and struggled to  influence.

I have had back issue since I was 17 and slid off a ladder awkwardly. Not much I haven't experienced re backs tbh.

Whilst you definitely ought to keep moving in most instances and work through it..sts.. There's a vast difference between keeping active... and overloading the injury. That does NOTHING to help. It hinders.

When mine flares up I keep active but my efficiency and capabilities drop off markedly until I resume some sense of normality.  I would be god smacked if any medico would advise anyone with a serious back ailment to  just keep on playing at AFL level. This elite form of the sport requires elite fitness and you  arent going tot have it  with a bulging disc.  Youd need to rejig the back muscular structure to frame and account for the stresses and loading.

Id be very interested to know the actual injury he's carrying.

Blind Freddy can see he's struggling with his normal running.

Got a feeling he will have a blinder this weekend as will Jeffy.

A caller to sen just said that he noticed that Watts wasn't training this morning with the boys.

Carrying multiple injuries and wearing all the heat for a team underperforming across the board.

Absolute joke.

Makes a nice easy whipping boy, every time the coaching staff want to look like they're taking a stand. They pick and choose which players they take a hard line on 'team rules' with and it shows.

Has McCartney's fingerprints all over it, there's a reason why he was moved on from the Bulldogs and they've never looked back.

So he was dropped in the pre-season, was dropped for the last game of the 2015 season and has played woefully since returning from his hamstring injury. I would suggest that Jack knows exactly what he has to do, the club is fully aware of his injuries (if any), fully aware of his pressure acts, km's run etc. Your comments are ridiculously emotional claptrap.

If he is carrying multiple injuries he shouldn't be playing so what's your point?

Where is it stated he is carrying an injury? or Multiple injuries? I havent seen that. I hope Watts plays and is fantastic. We need him right now, this weekend to help out.

Just being not bad would put him in the top 20% of his best games. But if he is injured the club should say.

He IS injured, take that as gospel.

Not emotional, others just have access to information you don't.

Agree 100%, seems they prefer to throw Jack under the bus and cause a standard media [censored] storm than make the facts available.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
