Personally i'm backing Sam Weideman to come good, i don't mind the idea of Roughy, but probably as a development coach to help them out.

the one i'd be targeting as the third forward who i think is extremely talented and gettable is Darcy Foggarty.

Kudos for having a dip, MB, but I’m of the opinion that some classy kids will go a long way to helping us climb the ladder next year

Let’s go to the draft

Agree Jumbo, we need to go to the draft soon as per the rules (and to spread our age profile), and hopefully we don't have a pick so early again for quite a few years.

Hope Taylor makes the most of it, and finds us a quality kid to add to our crop.

It's not going to happen. I'd rather get Roughhead from Hawthorn on a one year playing  deal with a coaching gig tied in. He can spend the year teaching TMAC  and Weed proper forward craft. You can laugh and scoff at the idea., but it makes a lot of sense

Roughhead?!?? Please.

The bloke should have retired 2 yrs ago.

I agree with Brown but Roughy will not help us.

Why not use pick 3 to grab Langdon, Hill, and a certian unnameable freo key forward in one go.

All problems solved at once.

Speaking of North, Nick Larkey is a big lump of a lad who hasn't really et the world on fire but his kicking accuracy leads the league at an astonishing 83% (20 goals, 4 behinds). I'd rather make a realistic pursuit of him than follow the absurd fantasy of chasing Brown.

Brown gets half his goals from free kicks, he won’t be getting those frees is he comes to us so the goals will dry up.

We have the worst forward line in the comp and the worst since inside 50 and conversion rates have been recorded.

TMac is iffy, Weideman has shown bupkis. It's been a horror show.

We must throw the kitchen sink and internal pipe fitting at Ben Brown to come to the  Melbourne Football Club. Pick 3 will get a rebuilding North interested.

We won't be having a shot at Rowell or Anderson as Gill will be giving them the PP necessary to ensure they have picks 1 and 2 in October.

Get radical and get Ben Brown or miss finals again in 2020.

The club will implode if we have another year like this one, good players will walk and Goodwin will be clearing out his desk by round 12.

Get real people.

What a terrible trade suggestion for us...

Yeah who'd want a supremely talented 23 year old who is rated as one of the best forwards in the comp this year, and helps our weaknesses of goals, kicks inside 50 and ground balls, when we can have an inaccurate 27 year old to jump at the same Viney bombs as Weid and TMac...? Cunning plan.

Ben Brown

2016 - 41 goals 18 behinds from 22 games

2017 - 63 goals 30 behinds from 22 games

2018 - 61 goals 24 behinds from 22 games

2019 - 48 goals 26 behinds from 18 games (so far)

27yo my God he's ancient. Pension him off now lol.

213 goals 98 behinds from 311 shots at goal over past four seasons, running at 68.5% set shot accuracy.

200cm tall gorilla, never gets injured, in his absolute prime.

You are kidding yourself.

One of the best fwds in the game....I can only assume you read that article on FB too, that was comical. Petracca is overrated far too much on here. He continually misses easy set shots on goal,  this has been an issue his whole career. Please enlighten me to which games Petracca has been the difference in the last two years. Trade him now whilst someone might still give us something of worth or we can do a Jack Watts all over again in two years.

Interesting trade suggestion BA. I floated same some months ago but the ‘Trade Petracca’ thread I started was shut down by the mods. Deemed too radical at the time. Funny how a Trade Brayshaw thread was allowed soon thereafter but there you go. But that’s another story.

Now the facts are we sit 17th on the ladder with a patently dysfunctional (politest word I can come up with) forward line with a dearth of genuine targets to kick to and straighten us up. Something’s got to give.

If Petracca could be floated out there in aid of us landing say a Ben Brown I would look at it. I would look at it very closely. Especially if it meant we could use next year’s first round pick in trade and hold on to this year’s pick 2.

We’ve got to get creative and bold this off season. Forget finals if we try and play a safe hand. Can’t roll with Weideman and TMac again. No way Josè.

If GCS were to get picks 1 & 2 would they give up pick 2 for a “supremely talented 23  year old who is rated as one of the best fwds in the comp”?

No. And they wouldn't give it up for Brown either.

Yesterday you were bemoaning our lack of under 23 talent, now you're wanting to recruit a 27 year old. Ok then.

Also...

"North Melbourne's Ben Brown is regularly noted as a sharp shooter but his 54.4% accuracy is not in the top bracket in the competition."

Get real. That article accounted for a paltry sample size of 16 games this season only. Over four seasons since 2016 I repeat Ben Brown has kicked 213 goals 98 behinds from 311 set shots, going at a very tidy 68.5% accuracy. His reputation for goal kicking accuracy is well earned.

The lack of U23 talent and the issue of our atrocious forward set up are two problems that can co-exist at the same time. You understand the concept of that ya?

You simply cannot pot the North Melbourne spearhead. He’s a jet.

Yes, and you do understand that given his age we should go off this year's stats, rather than ones from when he was 23 right?

I'm not "potting" Ben Brown at all, very good player, but he's not worth pick 2/3 (whatever it ends up being) given his age. You can't complain about our lack of young talent and then simultaneously trade away one of the best 3 young players in the country. It's absolutely hypocritical.

By the way, you do realize your stats are wrong yes? You're using total goals and behinds, not set shots.

Not surprising from you tho tbh.

He's the only one who kicks goals at North because of his long run set shot routine. Takes sooooooo frigging long no one else gets a chance.....

What, sell the circus to buy the clown?

nope.  If we could get him at a decent price, ok.  Last year, even with Hogan out, we scored heavily.  Putting Crusty McFlopper up front isn’t going to help much.  There are other issues to fix, here.  Once we do, he would be cream (expensive cream) on top.  He is not the saviour, he is just a very naughty stager.

Drafts can be lottery’s, Petracca is supposedly a gun, a ready made player and only 23 years of age. GCS don’t need more picks they need experience. If Petracca is as good as people suggest surely he’s be the perfect fit?.

Petracca being ahead of AMT says a lot about this. Betts at 9, he got dropped last week. You’re still yet to answer my question.

Priorities Nev.

No forward line, no hope in 2020.

What’s your solution? Thus far you’ve provided nada.

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.
