Was a sneaky question by Barrett (who I'm pretty sure is a North supporter).  There has been talk that our pick 23 (or 25 or whatever it is) would not be enough.  By asking the question it makes it look like if it is not a first round it should be an early second or something of decent value (i.e. a player worth a first / second round pick)

What number does he get?

Have the Dees had a no. 50 before?

Free numbers as I see it
16, 17, 19, 21, 25 and a bunch around the 40s

What about 51? one better than the roos :P

Will Mitch Clisby present Ben Brown with his jumper?

Garry Byers, now there's a name for history... I always thought he would be a good solid player... Only five games to his credit and listed for just over a year... I thought he had talent as a ruckman...

Here is a URL which brings back memories of his first game.. Some great players in that team and the Reserves too.

Funny you mentioned him Ohio-I was only thinking about him a couple of weeks ago and wondering hy his career was so short..I still have a clear  picture of him  from Footy Replay (In Black and White of course!)  rucking a boundary throw in near the members wing- and he never seemed to play a game after that.

Hope the AFL haven't told him to shorten his run up and said something like they will call play on so he's a bit "browned off" thinking it might upset his rhythm and affect his goal kicking...

My MFC paranoia tells me that the AFL will see this MFC player having something of his own that he can now use to help us, so will change the rule to our disadvantage.

Oskar Baker has immense potential for such a role. His sense of space mixed with his speed and agility in close are tremendous assets so it is strongly hoped that he is intensively developed by the FD for such functionalities. Game time will be critical.

How did this get onto the Ben Brown thread?   I know their coiffures are similar.  Should we rename the thread ugly hairdo players?

Hoping we get him for our future 2nd round pick. Maybe offer any of Tom or Oscar McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Bedford, Jordan, Nietschke, Chandler, Mitch Brown or Lockhart as steak knives. Though ideally they'd only take one of the first three.

Just to be clear, next years 2nd rounder is a lot more valuable than this years. Would rather get rid of this years 2nd rounder

I suspect we'll be giving this years 2nd rounder along with other picks (Preuss trade etc) to the Bulldogs for Pick 14.

Much better outcome but not sure that will happen

Would be a master stroke by Mahoney and something I don’t think he is capable of pulling off

I’m favouring a likely MFC Future 2021?2nd round for Brown.  Let’s see what happens. Kangas effectively told him to go seek another club then seem to want a 1st round pick. That’s Dodoro like behavior!

That’s a good option.  Definitely should strongly push that.

Why would you prefer that as an option instead of this years diluted 2nd rounder? Doesn’t make any sense

Hogan for 55, just for reference...

Part of me wanted Hogan back. At 55 that is a steal if he plays to his potential.

I think O Baker knows what is expected of him  now.  What he showed us in the few games  late in the season   that the potential is definitely there. He has upside.

I'm fine with keeping Baker on the list, but I'm not fine with relying on him to be our second winger. I also don't think we'll rely on him solely next year.

Really it was Hogan + baggage = 55, just for reference.

agree but it was Hogan at low salary with kickers.... not a bad deal

For GWS it's a much better deal than say Patton or Bennell.

Do we yet have insight into the money and contract length offer?

I don't think he is in our best 22 at the minute and i wasn't about to put him on a pedestal and I don't think his 2 snaps he kicked goals were flukes either although that being his best game  against GWS he played for us.

14 and 15 disposals in his last 2 games against GWS with 2 goals and Essendon.. Held his own.

He has still a way to go but he has a kick start from the last 3 games   and the way he played them. I watch with interest.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
