Just look at his highlights for the last 5 years. NFI

Sounds more like a self assessment there.

Ben Brown has only played 10 games out of 130 at the MCG with a win loss record of 6-4 and a return of 21 goals 13 behinds.

He has played 8 more games in Tasmania for a win loss record of 14-4 and a return of 35 goals 22 behinds which should help us when we have to play our yearly game there.

Even more worrying is that he was held goalless in his only appearance in Cairns.

Perhaps, but did he travel up on game day? If not then I think it's a bit unfair to judge him on it.

KK wasn't about getting it wrong - I have no doubt he was a gamble and, when you think about it, we got him as a 'steak knives' addition to the May trade.

I think the club well and truly understood that we may never be able to get him right, and that for this price, it was worth the risk.

Totally disagree, we gave him a long term deal

What do you disagree with?  Your comment was on the medicos.  They would have known where he was at, especially with what Gus went through.

Yeah, great.

As for not being able to cope with those less enthused by things - I can cope, I'm just going to call you out on your endless drivel. It's pathetic.

So yeah - I'm out. Disappointed that @Demonland didn't curtail the constant negative influences on this site during this season. Otherwise big respect to the moderators of this site. I just don't want it in my life anymore with all the pervasive [censored] and no facts rhetoric. Also big-ups to the many posters that fought for the truth to the end, and even those I battled with on a respectable basis over the years. No need to name names. When we win a flag, I would just be pissy and in vengeance mode on here anyway. Be well fellow travellers.

Don’t want to get between all of you, but we used our first pick on Kozzi last year.  Ben Brown will be a second rounder, or a combo of picks we get from a complex set of ins and outs.

Back to your normal interactions.....

To be fair, whilst I don't agree with @DeeSpencer's overall view, the argument against taking Brown is clear and deserves consideration.

It will either see us go into 2021 with Brown, Weideman and Jackson in our forward line, or with one of Weideman and Jackson not playing.

If the former, can that forward line work? It's taller than both Geelong's and Richmond's (for example), and with the added risk that Brown, Weideman and Fritsch aren't good with pressure.

If the latter, is that beneficial to our overall development? What's the point in taking Brown if we then can't/don't play Weideman? Or worse, it stifles Jackson's development?

IMO, it will result in the former: we'll play Brown as the stay-at-home forward with Weideman and Jackson roaming further up. Jackson's agility mean he's not a true tall anyway, and I think Weideman will be better when he's released from the pressure of being our only tall marking option. The impetus on the FD is to ensure that Brown, Weideman and Fritsch are all chasing, defending and tackling when we don't have the ball. I'd rather us back ourselves in to see those players improve their defensive/pressure games than assume they'll never improve.

But dismissing the argument against as simply "Brown kicks goals, we need goals, therefore we need Brown" is a bit shallow. It's a fair question to ask and debate to have.

You’re right but my question is, is Brown the best fwd we would have? I think yes so then it is a matter of who plays with him, I don’t care if it is 6 talls or 4 midgets. Whoever works as the best fwdline to win us a flag or 6.

Just focus on a team that can win 1 premiership.

You don't give a long term deal unless the medico's think there is a high likelihood of him playing, which they got completely wrong

Hff it’s not that you disagree it’s how you do it and not letting it go. You can make your point and then move on, yelling and yelling and yelling and yelling gets annoying. Maybe have a think about how to best get your points across without getting people [censored] off? Up to you though muscles.

Appreciate the suggestion guys (and others). But have had enough. I support free speech but if Demonland doesn't want to shut down obvious trolls or deliberately destabilising influences because it drives traffic then I'm out. See you in the soup. And please keep up the good fight. Go Dees!

@Skuit

One thing I've learned about Demonland is that Andy and co. can't keep people like HFF, Elegt, Olisik etc at bay because these types will always come back in another form.  It's the same on any forum.  They aren't really breaking any rules, even if they post with the skill of a monkey with half a brain most of the time.

Best thing to go is to stick them on ignore.  You cut out 90% of their contribution (with 10% taken up when someone quotes them) and you can focus on the wide array of diverse and interesting supporters that do frequent this site.  There are many of them, you included, and it's why I enjoy this site.

I hope you stick around, mate.  Don't let the others win.  Cheers.

Did they?  You know this for sure, or just guessing?

From where I sit, I think they knew he would take time and, to take the pressure off, gave him a three year deal so he could work on getting himself right to play again.  He was able to do this, briefly, which suggests that he WAS ready to play, but took further knocks (which a medico can't predict) and hasn't been seen since.

Right now the three years looks a poor decision, but at the time it made sense (to me anyway).

And I think we need more Kozzis before a Ben Brown especially when we have TMac still around and Luke Jackson.

Disagree with you again ... “We are confident his concussion issues are over ... "  Mahoney told SEN Breakfast. Seems like you're the one guessing

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
