Thread was tracking exactly as it was created for, which is about who is travelling down for the match......anyway, great news re Jetts and Maximus

I am an interstate member from Tassie.  So thrilled to be travelling from the north to Snowbart!  Going to the game with my son.  We have been to three games this year and Ds have won them all (so as good luck charms we will be there).  Also coming with my grandson (fifth generation Ds supporter) who has never seen us beat North!  (Son and I have fond memories of the '87 final.)  Go Ds!

I can't answer your question Mazer, but a mall area in the cbd (Elizabeth Mall?) is decked out with large, blue and white banners reading something like 'Welcome North'.  Glen Archer sat immediately in front of us on the plane this morning, and several total strangers have initiated footy discussions with Mrs 'oldfart and I as we wandered around the bitterly cold streets of Hobart in red and blue garb during the day.  Non of them were North supporters (or Melbourne for that matter) but they all wished us well for Saturday.  

I'm pumped.  Dunno what I'll be like come Gameday!

People love their footy down here, North did a good job of getting cash to play and get more members signed up.

Just did a quick search, but last year they had 7000 Tassie members signed up. 

Anecdotally from where I work tho a number of people have signed up as members despite following other teams, cos it's relatively cheap for three games and they don't have to stand in GA if they want to see their team play and go to a few games.

I'm in Hobart for work but unfortunately flying home Friday night. It's bloody cold here, especially in the mornings. Trust Melbourne to be picked again to play here with North instead of Etihad. 

Would've been a 10 goal win at Etihad based on how we're going there this year.

Hobart City Council is a sponsor of North to get the games in Hobart, hence the banners in the Mall and on other streets

Not sure how many of the 7k you mentioned were freebie 3game members though. My daughter's class were offered a family membership last year for free. Of course I took it but only to take advantage of the entry to the other games.

Would it be reasonable to say that the Taswegians are "adopting" North as "their" team? Or at least the Hobartegians?

Or still a ways short of that? Are the various-egians just pumped to see live AFL?

Does that pave the way, "if" Tassie get their own team, that it could be a transplant eg North?

Any recommendations on some decent accom close to the ground? Walking distance or short uber distance ( possibly stumble home depending!!!! ) and also watering holes. Basically footy, beer food and sleep close to BA!! No particular order there of course.......

Pretty slim pickings on that side of the river, as far as decent accommodation/eating/drinking options go, to the point that I'd avoid staying in that part of Hobart  

I'd recommend staying in the city, around the waterfront if you can get it. Heaps of food and drink options in North Hobart, Battery Point or Salamanca

Bellerive is 10 mins drive from the city. There will be free buses to the ground too

Call the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre on 03 6238 4222. They will find and book accommodation for you, saving you all the heavy lifting. They don't charge booking fees or commission either.

As someone who lives in Hobart, I don't think that there are many people that would be changing allegiances. I would imagine that there is adoption of the club at the grass roots level, i.e AusKick Clinics etc, but it would be new memberships, or people buying multiple memberships just to get in and watch AFL standard football. Tassie is an AFL state, and most people who follow the game have made up their minds.
Similar for the Hawks in Launceston.

Aw, maybe. I think a lot of young kids here are adopting them, but really I'd wager most of those 7k are just pure AFL fans who take the freebie 3-game membership for cheaper tickets to watch some live AFL. Same applies to Hawks IMO.

I reckon the majority would jump ship for a pure AFL team... the 3-4 game membership card holders at least.

We're here (staying Battery Point ) got off the plane and thought it was barmy, yes I'm from Ballarat. Every Tasmanian we have  spoken to has been a supporter of another Vic team other than Nought. They all said they hope the Dees win. Went to happy hour at Pearl (same building as Mures on the wharf) and had a couple of  lovely seafood dishes and frothies. Saw at least another 10 Dees supporters. I think there will be a very good fan base at the game. We booked everything a few days after the Nought loss coz  I wanted to yell at the *hits again. We bought tickets in the Boon stand undercover, cost around $60 a ticket. Some of the people at the happy hour are sitting in the same stand

 

Really hoping we get a good start especially on this ground.

Also hoping North come out a bit flat after a disappointing loss. They played really well last week for three quarters and really could have won it if not for some Essendon fast ball that their younger players were too tired to defend.

Always dislike playing against North as they're a difficult team to beat. Kind of like Collingwood they always hang around. They're also a great scoring side which makes it even more difficult to get a substantial lead on them. They don't go through significant periods without scoring like a lot of teams do.

A real challenge tomorrow. Go Dees!
