Round 14 Non MFC games

Featured Replies

Not too worried about meeting Sydney in the finals as neither team may yet make it and depending where teams finish we may not play them until the Prelim:cool:

5 of our next 7 games are against current top 8 teams. All classic 8 point games.  Plus a game vs our nemesis North, in Tassie.  We need at least 3 or 4 wins from that lot to play finals.  Then hope we don't relax or run out of puff in the last 3 rounds when we play currently lower placed teams.

I'm confident we will make the finals but a few tests to pass in the meantime.  Then I'll worry about who we play in September.

Well....wasn't that fun?

There was a huge amount of melting on my Facebook feed last night and still this morning.

An Essendon win would have been better for us as it would make Sydneys finals chances close to zero. The less teams who can challenge us for a place in the 8 the better.

If it comes down to other clubs allowing us to fall over the line, we're just making up numbers anyway.  Concentrate on winning and the ladder position will take care of itself as Nathan Jones would say.

How about just winning and winning - unfamiliar territory I know.

So players can direct the Umpire to check to see if it was touched or not?... hmmmm.

Close to one of the worst umpired games of the year, and guess who they were? Tweedledee (who should be ashamed of himself)  and Tweedledum .....

Good news though is that they won't be in Perth

When the captain, Heppell thinks they have it in the bag and 'stop playing' then lose they get what they deserve!

A 1 point, after the siren win is a great way to shut down that smug team and supporters; even better than seeing them thrashed!

Its even better when their most experienced and arrogant player stuffs up to cost them the game.

Just watched the last 2 minutes. Daniher took the defensive mark, there is 57 seconds to go and Sydney are still a goal down. In that time sydney score twice and win. Seriously how did essendon stuffing that up?

But its great to watch, especially when Rohan marks it and the bummers players put there hand on there head and slump to the ground. Have a fun flight home boys.

Imagine on here if we let a game slip like that?! It was be insane.

I went to bed at 3qtr time knowing my tip of the drug cheats was a good one... f I hate them!!! Glad they lost like they did.

Glad the Swans won as If we can get up (even a small loss) tonight should mean a bloody bumper crowd at the G on Friday night!!! Come on Dees!!!

Who's 45 for the Dons, he literally stopped during a contest on the 50 to let the swans player waltz away to kick into fwd 50 in the last little bit. Was terrible, and beautiful all at the same time.

I switched the channel over with two minutes to go. Switchback to see the Swans singing the song. WTF happened.

A cowpat would look good in a Melbourne jumper!

But on Merret, it's amazing that this day in age, with the investments by clubs in recruiting and junior development, that a player of that quality can slide so far in a draft.

Exactly, speed, unbelievable skills, amazing lateral movement, leadership. How this kid wasn't a top 3 pick is amazing.

Protected Pendlebury slings a player in a tackle after already being penalised for a high tackle, but guess what? NO FIFTY!

From a ladder point of view Collingwood winning would be very handy.

Not looking likely at the moment given the Pies have reverted to their earlier season form of terribly inaccurate inside 50 entries..

Pies skills are absolutely terrible, and James Aish is an awful footballer.

Jeremy Howe already looking good again today. He is having some season.

Aish is a Toumpas clone in almost every way.

Yeah, it's uncanny, and both obviously top 5 picks (I think Aish was 5 wasn't he?).

On another note, is anyone else finding themselves watching a heap more footy this year? Given we are doing relatively well, most games are close and have ramifications on our chances of top 8 or even top 4.

Ports pressure has been amazing in Collingwood's defense.

As for Howe, he's a loose defender who has skills. He's also clutch as we saw a few times in Melbourne colours. We've covered his loss well but he still lacks urgency. I'd rather Frost every day of the week.

Watching Colingwood V Port on foxtel (really just settling in for tonight's match) and Brad Johnson's commentary is quite good which just goes to prove that he should NEVER commentate a Bulldogs match. Far too conflicted. Even his fellow commentators last Sunday told him to pull his head in. As for DURRRWAYNE. There is no such thing as a "quarterback" in AFL football you muppet. That's what he keeps calling Pendlebury. Cringe worthy stuff.

Collingwood look woeful.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
