Can't believe we r SIXTH on the ladder which is the first time since 2006. 

Hopefully we stay there for the rest of the season.

Nope.  Was at the ground, and just watched the replay.  Greenwood holding the ball (2m57 to go) a definite.  Maybe Adams in the back late was there.  What about the Treloar htb the we didn't get?  Or the Howe holding the ball 5.45 to go that we didn't get?  Would have been a set shot from 40 out. Lots of ifs and buts but it certainly didn't affect the outcome.  Nice though to be on the plus side of the free kick count though for a change.

4th is within reach next week if all goes in our favour, although Richmond play Sydney at home and Port play Brisbane - and of course we have to win - so the odds are against it.

We can't fall out of the 8 though unless we suffer a large loss, which also seems unlikely. Huge opportunity to push a game clear of the logjam occurring below us this week, which includes the team we play against. The season is definitely heating up now.

I remembered the time in 2011 when Jack ran into the goal from pretty much the same angle, bounced the ball, and... 

It hit the ground like it was flat. He fumbled around, couldn't get it back, and then it went down the other end for a goal.

True, the real test is complacency with these guys coming back, hopefully we go up a level and string a few wins together.

100% agree. Its funny how short term the the media is. A couple of weeks back i was watching a Port game and the commentators were raving about Ryder, gave Port such drive from the center and  he was the best ruckman in the league. In the immortal quote fro Repo Man i cal [censored] on that.

We will be 20% better with Gawn in the side.

Wasn't his best, but everyone has an ordinary game. Positive is we won without a massive impact from JL.

Good experience for the mids too for when Gawn goes forward and we go defensive at the bounce.

I have not missed seeing a QB match live for years but had to this weekend as i had to go away for a basketball tournament. Got back just in time to watch it on TV.

I never go on DL during a match, usually because i'm at the game, but stupidly did so today at the end of the fist quarter, albeit very briefly. Predicable bagging of Omac for his two errors blind clearing the ball with rushed kicks from deep inside 50 (on his left foot both times interestingly). No mention at all of his other excellent defensive efforts in the quarter. An i wonder if there were comments about the defensive errors by Salem and Frost x 2 that cost us goals. Or the woeful kick inside 50 by Trac that cost us an easy goal. Or later in the game the three other times in the game we blindly kicked it from deep inside our 50 (Jones, Lewis and someone else) that didn't come back purely because of luck (one of those times because of a brilliant spoil from TMac halved a contest he should have lost)

I had to laugh because at one point Omac took a defensive pack mark and one of the bone headed commentators said it 'fell it into his lap'. Not geez, he read it well, unlike the other players flying for it. I wondered if DL had somehow infiltrated the commentary box such was the obvious confirmation bias.  

Omac was excellent today. As i have said many times i acknowledge his weaknesses but some of the comments on this site about him not being up to AFL standard, wouldn't get a game in any other team, woeful, etc etc are so of the mark they border on weird. As i have also said many times the coaching team keep picking him and that can only mean one thing. They rate him.

Actually two things. Those that say he should not be in the side  because he is not up to it are wrong. Plain wrong. They had the opportunity to drop him this week by bringing in Spencer (or Wagner for that matter). Many argued they should have. A season defining game with a top 8 position on the line. With only one big forward in the magpie side. But they didn't. What does that say about how highly they rate OMac?

And OMac repaid that faith and proved his knockers wrong.   And by by the by may he miss next week because he hurt his abductor near the end of the 3rd or near the start of the last and played the rest of the game under severe duress.

Worth noting that we were the older and more experienced of the two sides yesterday. 

Avg Age: MFC - 25yrs 0d precisely!, CFC - 23yrs 261d

Avg games: MFC - 92 games, CFC - 75

Difference is by no means earth shattering, but does still equate to 1-2 seasons more experience.

I choose to read into this that the balance is starting to turn and we're no longer going to always be the younger of the two sides on the park. Yesterday's performance (read: halftime onwards) should start to be the norm and not the exception 

i want to hear more about those 3 min ladies. maybe uncle bitters could explain?

After watching this replay for the umpteenth time, I just noticed this.

I'd thought Watts just happened to be hanging around in space somewhere at half forward when the ball came down. But no, he was near the back of the centre square in the middle; he was in a totally different part of the ground. But as soon as he saw O-Mac's dribble kick break the Collingwood line, he sprinted - because he had to get to where Harmes was going to kick it before any Pie defenders - towards the boundary line about 60m out, then ran in another 40m to make sure of the goal.

A 100m sprint at the end of an exhausting game ...

Some don't like the fact that he's not full-on intensity all the time, but the ability to quickly control that intensity can be absolutely critical at the right time.

Great summary. He's all class, and starting to rack up his fair share of game-winning moments. Very hard to imagine this team now without him. And on that, for all the extra unfamiliar work he's done this year as the ultimate utility player, remains uninjured.
