This is the list managements last chance to do a good/bargain deal for us. Can we please try to not give something too high for him.

Wishful thinking perhaps, Pates.

An angry supporter called SEN and said Mahoney's negotiation is just like the team this year:  In a great position to win and expected to get a win, then cave in and lose.  Referring to the Lever and Watts trade.

I thought the caller made a very good point.  We, as a club do not know how to convert a winning position.  Like you I hope that changes with Balic, even for symbolic reasons - people are laughing at MFC especially over the Watts gift to Port.

We have: 29, 31, 36, 47 and 66.

They have: 41, 42, 57, 60 and 79.

I doubt we will use 66 even if Garland retires. We are better off having a look at delisted free agents, the preseason draft or an extra rookie and then having flexibility to promote one of them.

66 I'd suggest is on the table but the Dockers will want more. So we can do 47 down to 57 or 36 down to 42 or similar but ideally it comes with a 3rd party who might be keen on taking on later picks to move one our picks up the order.

Making parallels between negotiating at the trade table and form onfield is beyond silly.

Balic for Pick 47 will be fine by me.

We take 3 second rounders into the draft while also adding Lever and Balic.  Not that bad if you ask me.

Mahoney will prob give pic 29 for Balic and say it’s a fair deal for both clubs.

Sound familar?????

Don’t worry I know life goes on but it would be nice to come out on top for a change.

Agreed.  It would have been nice to have a fairy tale but footy is full of sad endings unfortunately. Jack won't be the last

Does Hibberd ring a bell?

So according to his manager, mfc were waiting to see what they got for watts before moving on Balic...the recent form suggests we will probably give up pick 31 for a former pick 38. That's our current track record isn't it?

Bain (ballics manager) said it would be a late pick.

But good humor lots of laughs

31 a late pick yeah? Or is 31 a top end pick? We've been bent over in every deal this year and a few last year..may the trend continue

Great! Quick Mahoney, it's not too late to give all 5 picks to Fremantle for Balic.

An opinion.  A wrong one, but an opinion all the same.

We did alright with Hibberd last year as well, but don't let the facts get in the way of a fictional story.

I would give 66...this bloke has some major off field issues..not sure we all understand the baggage we are taking on here.

It's already been reported in Real Footy that the trade will happen tomorrow and that we will be giving pick 66 for him... as mentioned above by another poster.

His off-field issues related to anxiety caused by being away from his extremely close family... apparently his mother was quite distraught that he went to the west and his father had, jokingly, offered him $70,000 to stay home. But of course that probably doesn't fit the doom and gloom narrative that is ever popular amongst many posters on this site.

Pick 66 would be a bargin and well worth it. Maybe use pick 29 and 31 and swap for a early 2nd rounder or late 1st rounder.

Yes, it goes some way to making up for the Watts trade and leaves us with 29, 31 and 38(?) and is it one other pick in the 80's? Not sure what they'll do next as they might need all available picks to top up the list in the event that Garland does announce his retirement.

Jeezus! Wish my dad offered me $70k to not take a job. WTF didn't he give the money anyway? Is parental love conditional? Strange cat.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
