GC will want a better than mid first rounder....( Bulldogs pick 7 a possibility) or a late first rounder and a player. No ...Hunt won't fly

We really don't have a player to offer

Hard to see us getting back into this deal

The deal is cooked without pick 5. Time to move on.

I thought we can't use our 2019 first round pick due to the rules of trading more than 2 in a 4 year period (unless getting AFL approval to do so).

well yes, that is the question

some have posted an afl quote which indicates all clubs have been cleared this year to use future picks (but it wasn't specific enough for my liking)

Fair enough but do we really want another year out of the race for topping up on young talent.

So it's off to the dogs for young May.

I feel strangely sorry for whoever ends up as pick 7 in the draft

What happened if May came out and requested a trade to Melbourne? would that force GCS hand to do the best possible deal.  It isnt very often a club refuses to deal these days, players get to where they want to go (which i dont agree with, unless they want to come to us of course).

Or May stays committed to GCS for one more year and we get him in next trade period and costs us nothing

He's still a contracted player. Same situation as Jesse at the moment. The difference is May is a free agent next year so we can pinch him for free then if he's still available and we're still interested and he still wants to come to us.

I'll also add that it seems he really wants out and will probably be swooped up by someone else in this trade period despite seeming to want to come to us. Given our poor pick status we just aren't in the hunt now.

He might have his heart set on us in which case he may be willing to sit it out and wait until next year (not literally sit it out).

But as we know a lot can change in a year. Who knows Hogan may find a hot girlfriend and refuse to leave Melbourne at the end of next year.

Watch Collingwood swoop :(

Aren't they orchestrating all this... since they had to sign tiler Moore back on.

They're trying to make JTaylor look like  Derek Hine's biatch.

We have 4 options:

the Hogan deal kicks back in (unlikely)

May requests a trade to us and they move him on at a lower rate to start their rebuild.

He goes FA next year and we get him then.

He ends up requesting a trade elsewhere

low probabilities for this year, moderate for next if he stays at GCS.

Melb v Eagles Prelim

games played Melb 2000 v WC 2600

im comfortable with sitting out another year and picking up players who fit our age profile now

He is being massively overrated. What has Steven May ever done to warrant MFC parting with a first round pick?

Had our great FD not sold the farm for a 3rd up back with an ACL history (who subsequently did an ACL in his first year at the club), then maybe we would already have May this year. FMD!

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
